DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU ARE ENGLISH! Beautiful campsite with amazing facilities hence my one star which I feel is very generous due to rude obnoxious staff working in the restaurants and rotisserie counter. There was 4 of us staying for 3 nights and every single day we were treated so poorly (like outcasts) and as per comments people have left below, you basically have to be French to receive good service here. They will stare at you and make you feel uncomfortable, like you shouldn’t be on their territory. A rude lady with dark hair from the upstairs restaurant slammed menus down on the table in front of us when we asked to be seated. No welcoming, no ‘please take a seat’, no nothing. Blonde Girl at reception supposedly married attempted to ask our boyfriends for their phone numbers and when they denied her this, she persisted to say she will just look them up on the work computer to find them. Not only is that massively disrespectful to us girlfriends but a huge breach of data protection. Where is the professionalism here? The next day the man with glasses who works on the rotisserie counter snatched the food buzzer from my friends hand and told her to ‘wait over there’ for her food. Then proceeded to serve French people with politeness and a different tone. After this we decided to speak with Gemma (the manager) and express my concerns. Not once did she apologise for poor customer service and persisted to defend her staff. So laughable. In England we process complaints with compassion and care, which is what this campsite seems to lack. The bar staff were so friendly and kind, cracking jokes and making us feel welcome. We could not fault them. We expressed how some of their staff made us feel, they simply nodded their heads and ‘yes, those people are crazy’. We then knew we was not going mad! Campsite needs to learn better customer service for their staff. If you’re looking for some fun and to have a giggle here forget it, people are so boring and judgemental. Gemma was so poor at handling our complaint that she felt the need to express I was ‘annoying’ to my boyfriend….. no wonder her staff follow suit, she seems to be settling a poor example. I was also told to ‘be careful’ when I advised staff had asked for our boyfriends numbers. Cant help but feel that was some sort of inappropriate threat. Otherwise, food is yummy and drinks reasonable prices. Would never come...

The pitches are tight to get into but quite spacious once inside. The continental idea of regimented pitches is new to us as campers, having previously only camped in the UK. Maybe caravanners are more used to that. The pitches are surrounded by trees which give lovely shade, the weather was hot and sunny. Some of them had trees growing in the middle so were of no use to us. The facilities were spacious and spotless. Plentiful free hot water for showers and washing up. Toilets and showers were unisex, another new one on us. Toilets covered by a roof but no external walls. Showers and cubicle washbasins were, thankfully, enclosed. There is a very welled stocked supermarket, separate boulangerie / coffee shop and a large restaurant which we found expensive but they do take-away pizza. In high season there is a poolside bar. Being late in the season the site was almost full – only because they had closed off sections {closest to the reception}. There is a fantastic outdoor swimming pool area with several pools, slides and Jacuzzis. Another indoor pool is adjacent for fitness swimming. There are tennis courts, badminton and boule courts, a huge kids play area . Beach volleyball, gym and spa is also available. In high season there is a kids club and entertainment. The site covers a vast area, mainly with – very smart - mobile homes and chalets. The only negatives for us were the price of their wifi (5 euros per hour) and the distance from the coast – we misunderstood ’10 mins from beach’ as 10 minutes walk whereas its 10 minutes drive. Once set up for more than one nights stay we cannot easily leave the site (as with campervans). A shuttle bus would have been useful. The very helpful staff told us that there was a bus to the nearby coastal resort so we went looking for bus stops only to find that it is a seasonal service that it had already stopped running as it was the end of their season. We just happened to ask the wrong person on reception. A minor niggle given the overall quality...
Read moreNot my idea of 5*. Small tight pitch with no drainage even though we paid for it. Cleaners/security, excellent. Good shop well stocked. Booked in November last year and asked for easy accessible pitch, if we hadn't had a mover on van we would never have gotten on or off, very very tight and cramped.
Bar staff on whole were really not interested in us, 1 girl in particular really needs training on customer relations. Cigarette in mouth behind bar (unlit) hanging down not a very welcoming site Having said that, one of the male staff was excellent and friendly.
Restaurant,, where to start. Think we needed to be French to get anything resembling service.
Visited three times, had issues on 2 of those. Food taking an eternity to arrive, ( I mean an hour plus) couldnt get to pay the bill until we got up to walk out!! Third and final time was a complete disaster. same girl as bar (cigarette) served us, took order for 6, 5 arrived within reasonable time, 6th didnt arrive. Asked where it was to be met with "oh well, I'll get it now" we had finished eating ours by then. Burger was promptly served 5 mins later, RAW. Not rare. I stood up and took to girl and tried to explain but was shot down with "well she made a mistake, what are you doing" I have to say there are a couple of excellent servers in the restaurants, speaking to them after this we got the feeling this girl didnt really give any consideration to customers. Left feeling angry and upset. Again, I have to say the pizza guys and young lady on counter on take away are excellent and hard working. I do appreciate restaurants are busy, we have a hotel and serve up to 200 per shift, sometimes things go wrong, an apology and explanation usually does the trick, this girl is a real let down.
We have been to Castels sites on 3 occasions, however, based on our latest experience we shall not be returning to one anytime soon.
5* facilities have to have 5* service...
