This charming hotel has almost all the original features from when it first opened in 1970. The marble floors, the fabric wallpaper, the beautiful woodwork, the vintage furniture, all provide a sense of unexpected retro glamour in this tiny sleepy village. On top of that, our room had a generous balcony with french doors leading to lovely views of the mountainside. Some parts of the hotel are gently worn - this is a working hotel not a pristine museum - but overall the ambiance is wonderful. Breakfast is excellent, and we also made use of the terrace for an afternoon beer in the sunshine. The restaurant isn't open at the time of writing (mid Sept 2023), so we strolled 20 minutes down the road to the (very good) campsite pizzeria for dinner. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, and we noticed that there is covered parking under the hotel - particularly important for (motor)cyclists. Do stay here if: you love authentic 60s/70s style, peace & quiet It might not be for you if: you want a hotel where you can stay up late in the bar/restaurant.

Knowing that we were going through Ax les thermes we pre looked at hotels in the area and found that Saturday night is not a good time to find a room. We found "Le Castelet" and it had rooms. And so it was after some 5 hours of fantastic mountain roads we arrived at the hotel. In its day it must have been the place to be. Sadly it was starting to age and it appears that cost of maintenance was taking is toll. We loved the place for its character and aged beauty. The room we were given was adequate although not having a shower was a blow. We had taken a room with a solarium which over looked the mountains and caught the evening Sun, very nice. There was a restaurant which was closed so a trip back to the town, (4km) was required. Luckily breakfast was provided by the hotel and so was a very good coffee. The staff which appeared to be just a middle ashes couple were really nice and were so helpful. A beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting but sadly just a wee bit far from the main attractions that the town held. We would go back again if it was still open, it was a...

Spacious rooms, very clean, Super location, very calm. The rooms have a small balcony with view on the Pyrenees. Excellent breakfast with home-made croissants. Free parking. The hotel is situated about 2km before you reach Ax-les-Thermes in a small village called Perles et Castelet and about 30 minutes from Andorra. Owners are very friendly, we were even allowed to leave our suitcases for a few more hours after we checked out.||Level...
