I rented out the premium chalet with my girlfriend and her family for a week. For context I am an American and my girlfriend and her family are French. ||I could not be more pleased with our experience we received at Les Rives du Lac. From our booking the team worked with us as we had special requests and were super accommodating (and their English is excellent). We accidentally booked the wrong campsite (tent vs chalet) and based on our earlier conversation the host called me back to confirm which we really wanted. I was so thankful as I really wanted the outdoor Jacuzzi. ||Continuing with the service, on arrival we were provided with a complimentary chilled bottle of wine which was a great surprise and set the tone for the week. They were super helpful with recommendations for hikes and were adamant about refunding our laundry coins we didn’t end up using at the end of our trip. ||Regarding the Chalet:||Pros: |• Did I mention outdoor Jacuzzi?? It was an amazing experience to sit out under the stars each night and relax after our long hikes. Absolutely recommend getting the premium chalet.||• Security - the campsite itself is next to a lake that is open to the public so the staff went above and beyond to make sure we knew all of our things were secure while we were out hiking. There were multiple security gates (including a covered parking area) that we passed with special badges. ||• Chalet - the first thing that we noticed was how clean and new everything was. My girlfriend isn’t the biggest fan of bugs so normally we spend a good amount of time inspecting the rooms/beds but here it wasn’t necessary as everything was very clean. I don’t know when it was built but it seemed new. ||• Interior design of the chalet was very ergonomic in being able to fit 6 comfortably without feeling crowded at all. ||• Beds and amenities were some of the best I have found at campsites so far. It seemed most of the stuff was from Ikea and quite new.||Bonus:||We just so happened to be here the same week as the Tour de France and they came right next to the campground. Literally a 5 minute walk to the main road. Was a great experience.||Cons:||• I learned you can’t look up “Les Rives du Lac” on google maps and arrive at the correct location. Not at all the campsites fault but just a warning as we ended up 20 minutes away from our destination.||• When we arrived our grill (bbq) wasn’t working properly. As a Texan I was really looking forward to having a grill again so that was a bit of a let down but the staff timely sent two different people to help us and everything was working perfectly by the next day.|||Overall it was a great experience. The people working there really went out of their way to make sure we had a great trip. Also the camp seemed very sustainable minded (solar panels, charging stations for EV, minimal electronics, no plastic etc) which really is nice bonus. ||I hope to come back in October for the Fall and recommend to all but especially if you are Non-French speaking...
Read moreThis is a fantastic campsite, situated on the edge of a small lake near Veynes. It has a small, very clean, covered pool , which was unheated. Although my children went in it, it was too cold for me to attempt to. Activities for children incl table football, table tennis, kids art activities with a youth leader, boule, park and trampoline area. Fantastic!! There are elecrtic rickshaws you can hire if youre feeling adventurous. We took our touring caravan and the pitches are generous in size with shrubs marking the boundaries. In my honest opinion, the access to the pitches was too narrow for a caravan. We struggled massively to get ours onto a pitch without hitting rocks or catching bushes (7.3m long) and we could pick which pitch we wanted. I would maybe suggest replanting some of the shrubs to make it easier upon arrival/departure. That said, it had a lovely, spacious feel about it. Toilet/shower block absolutely A1 5* Very clean and sterile, lots of family cubicles, disabled access cubicles as well as the usual. There are two washing machines available to use too. The lake is warm, shallow, two restaurants/ bars on it (one belonging to the campsite and makes the most amazing burgers!!) and loads of activities to do (Paddleboarding, inflatable assault course in the middle of the lake, pedaloes (€10 for each) mini golf, hi-ropes, lazertag and swimming. We took our own inflable dinghy and there was no issues whatsoever in using it. Herve and his team are very friendly, extremely helpful and knowledgeable people. He has a lot of knowledge of the local area and can offer assistance on mountain biking, star gazing, canyoning, potholing, river swimming etc etc. He was very helpful to us when our car broke down on a day trip to Alp d'Huez and had a nightmare few days with the breakdown insurance. They towed us off the mountain and left us for 7hrs in the middle of nowhere at a garage who were unwilling to look at our car as it wasn't a Renault(!) We had to make our own way back to the campsite. Herve very kindly telephoned the garage on two occasions to get an update on our car for us (once we finally got someone to look at) as they didn't speak much English. I would love to go back and explore the area further as we didnt get the chance to due to the car issue. (One point, make sure your radiator isn't over full, as this was our prob at the high altitude climb. The expansion in pressure caused the seal on a pipe to blow!) I would've loved to give it 5* but cold pool and difficult access to pitches for the caravan make me give it 4*
Well done everyone, a gem...
Read moreA really lovely site in a beautiful location, next to a small lake surrounded by mountains and forests. The owners were very friendly and welcoming and work so hard to make sure you have a great time. Many of the staff speak can speak French, English and German. This was a great bonus for us when our motorhome broke down. Many thanks to one of the owners, Herve, who was really helpful helping us translate our numerous conversations with local garages (the French I learned at school didn't cover engine parts!). He was also very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the local area and the many activities/excursions available in the area. These are advertised at the office and on their website. |The bar is friendly, welcoming and reasonably priced with a lively atmosphere. Pizzas, gourmet ice-cream and some regional specialities are available. |The site has lots of activities for children including two heated, covered swimming pools, table tennis, bar football and games which our 2 teenagers (age 13 and 15) enjoyed as well as the many activities available around the lake.|The sanitary facilities were good. Regularly cleaned, with an adequate number of free showers.|The pitches were of a good size, attractive and mostly shaded by trees. Many had stunning views of the mountains.|There is such a lot to do around the campsite. The nearby small town of Veynes is very attractive and has a selection of speciality shops as well as a Super U supermarket. We cycled there in about 15 minutes. |We would love to go back there soon to enjoy some more of the activities and sights of the region which we were unable to do as we spend a lot of time on the phone trying to sort out the motorhome. We really enjoyed the time we had there, cycling, walking, swimming...
