"♫Where do I begin, to tell the story, of our trip to Brittany ♫.............." sorry Neil, that's not exactly Lennon and McCartney, but hey (Jude)!! Anneke and Neil, our hosts, were like old family friends from the moment we arrived, and catered to our every need. Anneke is the ever attentive hostess and always ready with suggestions for our day of sightseeing, and Neil is always willing to share stories of his time served in the RAF and a most enviable period of skippering yachts in the Caribbean!! Their home is traditional rustic and impeccably maintained and ideally situated in beautiful rolling countryside with outstanding views from every window. As well as the dining room there is a games room complete with pool table and a cinema room with the opportunity to watch your favourite movie in relaxed surroundings. The heated outdoor pool, hot tub, shaded veranda, alfresco dining by the pizza oven are just a few the exciting outdoor facilities. On a clear cloudless night be sure to relax by the fire pit and stargaze, the experience is stupendous, and Neil and Anneke are very well informed in all things celestial. Breakfast is a leisurely affair of fresh coffee and juice accompanied by a wonderful array of meats, cheeses, eggs, pastries and preserves. Evening meals can be taken at the B&B, and you certainly wont want to miss such a gourmet treat, as Neil’s mastery with fresh, locally sourced ingredients is a wonder to behold. Locarn is conveniently situated for day trip sightseeing throughout Brittany – for example, Mont St Michel, the canal and locks of Hédé-Bazouges, the Gulf of Morbihan and Quiberon Peninsula a two hour drive and Brest, Locronan, Pontivy, Josselin and Dinan about an hour to an hour and a half drive. Of course, the local countryside is ideal for a stroll or even a day of hiking and the d’Armorique Regional Parc is nearby.

Read moreBooked a 3 day visit to the Lodge with Neil and Anneke. They don't usually take bookings in Winter but as a previous guest they made an exception. What an amazing experience. The house and location are outstanding but it's the culinary experience i would like to mention here. Neil has evolved into a quality 'chef de cuisine'. He is adventurous and daring with his menus, creating simply heavenly dishes with locally sourced, fresh ingredients. I ran out of superlatives when trying to describe each experience. For anyone who wants more than just a fabulous spot to recharge and for whom quality food is high on the agenda, Locarn Lodge is for you. Neil will go far as an emerging Chef and Anneke is one of the kindest, generous hosts you're likely to meet. Highly...
