Hôtel Campanile Laval Nord — Hotel in Laval

We needed a hotel to stay en route from Switzerland to St Malo and were very happy we booked this hotel which is rightly well recommended on booking sites. The price for one night was very good value. The hotel is located in a small industrial zone just off the A81 motorway and just 3km north of Laval. The hotel is a year old but still looks and feels new; clean modern contemporary decor; comfortable bedroom with 2 large queen/king sized beds - we were 3 - with modern bathroom with rain shower over large bath and a separate toilet. We drove into the very pretty town of Laval for supper and enjoyed the very tasteful and impressive Christmas lights in the trees, and water light and sound show in the river. ||The breakfast was excellent with plenty of freshly baked breads, cakes and pastries, freshly squeezed orange juice, eggs, cold meats, cheese and more; very good value...

Room was comfortable enough, reasonable location, but that's where it ends. The air conditioning did not work and the toilet door, when open, prevented entry through the room door, very poor design. ||Breakfast was another level. The layout of everything meant that the majority of people were scrambling for room in the corner. Food was not regularly replenished meaning many people waiting for something which added to the crowds. Scrambled egg was the worst I've ever had in France, hot food was served out in tiny pots and almost always empty. Fresh pastries were a disgrace, I've never had a chewier croissant. The coffee from the machine was disgusting. The breakfast room was SO loud, I could barely hear my family at the table and the 4 slice toaster only worked on one side. ||Worst hotel breakfast experience...

The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The location is clean and very modern. Bar was open until 11. For a long weekend it was quiet, especially for how many groups of young people were staying there. A huge gripe for me was the tv in the room. As someone who travels a lot a hookup my laptop or chromecast. The HDMI input is totally blocked by the tv wall mount bracket. Also no air conditioning and the "sofa bed" wasn't very comfortable. The room was the definition of bare bones. Everything in the room was clean, the washroom and shower were great. No microwave, no fridge and no air...
