A aimé : The swimming pool was really pleasant, although it closes at 7pm, is small for the size of the site and has a strict tight trunk policy. Located close to a pleasant-looking town and close to Rouen and the route to Calais. The trees are pleasant and there is potential for it to be a decent site, if managed properly, and improved.
N'a pas aimé : I write this review in the interest of warning families to think carefully about where they stay... This site seems to be run on a shoestring and skeleton staff. On arrival we were kept waiting until the manager eventually appeared and then struggled to find our booking. He then allocated us a very small plot for our large motorhome and pointed to where it was. (In fairness he later saw me and said we could choose another, but we had already set everything up by then.) He didn't provide any information about the site, I had to ask later. The manager appears to attempt to do it all himself as he was the only staff member we saw. As a result, the place looks run-down and the very limited facilities are lacking hygiene. Our block contained one toilet (without a toilet seat which isn't unusual) and one dirty shower which soaked everything in there, and had a button that required pressing every four seconds. Nothing is allowed to be flushed down the one toilet and there was one disgusting little bin, overflowing with used toilet paper and sanitary products. The worst thing was lifting the lid with your hand to place items in it. I saw the manager enter the toilet the next morning, phone pressed to his ear and a mop in his hand. He was in there maybe three minutes maximum. I went in after he'd vacated to see that he had not emptied the bin - disgusting!! A breeding ground for germs in such hot weather. We feared getting a bug. There was one little push button water tap to provide water for many pitches and the electric points were few and far between. There was general untidiness around the site, such as a broken down bus with tarpaulines and pallets strewn around it. A man hole cover, close to collapse, lay next to the path, with just a cone placed on top. Extremely dangerous to inquisitive children. These faults aside, we saw that the restaurant was open and thought it would be really handy to go and have a nice meal. We headed over at shortly after 8pm and saw two men outside enjoying a drink, and a couple inside eating a meal. I went to the bar to be told by the manager that the kitchen was now finished! Why? I enquired. The board says open until 10.30pm. No reason given. I will now describe the horror to follow overnight. When we went to bed, two couples with two cars and a tent crammed on to a plot behind ours, were having a bit of a party. This became increasingly rowdy and unpleasant as the hours passed by. At 2.30am a huge fight kicked off between two women. one was screaming and crying, the other shouting, while things were being thrown and smashed. All very disturbing. Finally the noise died down around 3.30am. When I complained to the manager the next morning, his response was that he had no control of people who don't abide by the rules. Frightening! I have since taken the time to read other reviews and I'm alarmed to learn that this night time rowdiness is a recurring theme on the site. Clearly, this security issue needs addressing. I couldn't possibly recommend this place to anyone at this moment in time, especially...
Read moreI'd like to give this campsite 5 stars but the toilet/shower block really let's it down. It's in a lovely location and is reasonably priced. The owner/manager is really friendly and helpful and there is a pleasant bar/restaurant on site. A 500ml draught beer is €7, 250ml €4. A full English breakfast, without a drink is a very reasonable €5 in contrast to the expensive beer! Unfortunately the cafe wasn't open on the Sunday morning I was there. The toilet/shower block is what really lets this site down, I know my wife would only give 1 star were she doing a review. The block is open to the outside and at the moment (Sept 24) that means very cold. They are also not very clean, the floors particularly are grubby, stained tiles. It looks as though the block has been refurbished without doing the full job. As you can see in the photos, along with many French sites, no toilet seats or paper. A sign says this is company policy! Come on, this is the 21st century! The water in the showers is warm, definitely not hot! The dishwashing sinks have much hotter water! It's a shame, this place could be fantastic. It's not Camping Bel Air any more as of last year but Google doesn't know that. It's now called Camping...
Read moreWe enjoyed our stay at Camping Bel Air (Camping Lescales) near the pretty Normandy town of Louviers.
It's a well kept, if a little dated site, that I would describe as small. The host is very friendly, always smiling and on hand to help if required.
The site has a small circular pool, a single shower block separated into male & female, with 2 showers, 2 wash-hand basins and two toilets plus a new washing machine & tumble dryer. There's a small snack bar & cafe which serves hot freshly prepared food (which is a real highlight), cold drinks, ice creams and snacks. It also incorporates a small shop selling a few essential and non-essential items including locally produced honey & cider.
The town is well worth a visit, a good 45 minute walk from campsite to town centre, or a 15 minute cycle ride. The town is very pretty and has everything that you'll need, including several supermarkets, banks, cafes, bakers, butchers, hairdressers...well everything that you'd expect in a small town.
The site is well maintained, the grass nice & short. There are several mobile homes dotted around the site and plenty of shade for camping and...
