Liked: We stayed on pitch number 185 for 6 nights at the start of the season. This pitch has its own ensuite bathroom, electric hook up, water tap, picnic bench, covered outdoor washing up sink and bbq and was large enough to accommodate our 7 berth tent even though the ground sloped / was uneven in places. The site is a fairly straightforward 1.5hr drive from Dieppe Ferry Port. There is a mixture of residential static caravans and rental pitches on this site, but when we visited at the start of April, there was hardly any one else there, so it was really peaceful. (Some of the residential pitches looked a bit overgrown / abandoned so unsure how many of those pitches are actually in use.) There is a good range of leisure opportunities (tennis court, basket ball nets, trampoline, table tennis, crazy golf, football goals, swings and slides etc) - we used our own football so did not have the need to ask if there were any we could use. We had a good mobile phone signal and data roaming so didn't investigate campsite WiFi. We had no need to use onsite toilet facilities so cannot comment on those. The local train station in Gaillon is less than 10 minutes drive away and has free parking. The train from there to Paris takes just over 1 hour. The staff we met were polite and friendly and we were given the opportunity for a later check out which was much appreciated. On arrival, we were given a barrier key fob and the presence of the barrier made the site feel more secure.
Disliked: There was nothing we disliked, but improvements that may be helpful would be more bin locations at the river end of the site and a heater in the ensuite (although there are two electrical points in the 'shed' so we plugged our little camping heater in there). It is worth noting that the shower has instant hot water but once the tank of hot water is used it takes a little while to get hot again. If you are travelling as a family you may need to stagger your showers if you all want a hot shower. Finally, the washing up sink on the pitch did not have a plug or washing up bowl so remember to...
Read moreWhat a fabulous experience! We (a family of 4) stayed in our campervan on a lovely well maintained flat pitch, with an area of gravel to park and sunny grass to sit out on. Each pitch is surrounded by high hedges so wonderfully private and great if you bring a dog. The showers and toilets (with separate sink cubicles) are up near the spa and chateau and are wonderfully clean and well equipped. The individual showers have a shelf to put your things on and a towel rail, and are lovely and warm. There is a fabulous teenage hideout in the tower with table football, games console and comfy seating and tv and bean bags upstairs. The main chateau has a warm comfy seating area with a tv, loads of board games, a pool table and lovely rustic decor. It is here that you can collect tennis and badminton rackets or crazy golf clubs or ping pong paddles to play whenever you want. The shop which has ice creams, biscuits, wine, jams and preserves serves fresh bread and pastries each morning (you order the day before). We enjoyed fresh pastries with lovely hot chocolate and coffees on the terrace outside, which the night before, was also the scene of one of the best karaoke experiences we have ever shared - particularly with the outstanding Sophie who along with the other locals, made the evening so enjoyable. Fabienne and Eric have created a truly wonderful retreat and a special mention should be made to their home made pizza which was exceptional and their super friendly dog who is almost as beautiful as the chateau and gardens. I haven't even mentioned the swim up jet pool, jacuzzi and sauna, spa area - we didn't have time to try these out this time, but we will do so when we return - this was such a relaxing experience for the family and definitely one we will...
Read moreLiked: Great customer service - the lady behind reception could not have been more helpful during our stay
Clean showers and toilets
Great facilities - amazing, sizeable and brand new children’s play area, we played mini golf, tennis, snooker (all equipment available just to pickup in the chateau office building) and fished on the River Seine which flows along the bottom end of the site, where there is even a tiny beach area (although swimming in the Seine which is very wide at this point, is very much discouraged)
We enjoyed evening drinks and ice creams sat at the little bar that is run from within the reception area outside the chateau in the sunshine
You can pre-order fresh bread and pastries the day before to collect the next morning from the reception - a huge bonus!
We liked that each plot was quite private and very level pitches
We were pleased to be able to use a disposable BBQ on the hardcore
The site was extremely quiet and peaceful - although a lot of people there (including in semi-residential caravan homes) - it is spread over quite a large area so never felt busy
Although there was no swimming pool on site there is an exceptional outdoor pool complex about three miles away in the direction of Vezillon/Les Andelys
Pretty town of Les Andelys, on the banks of the Seine, with many shops and restaurants, less than ten minutes’ drive away
Disliked: Plenty of loo roll in the toilets but no soap, so take your own
Our plot was a mix of grass and hard standing which wasn’t in itself a problem but meant we were limited in where we could pitch our (large) tent within it, so worth being aware
The wi-fi connection did not extend much beyond the reception area is not as far as our tent a few...
