Camping Chouans — Hotel in Les Sables-d'Olonne

We visited Camping Les Chouans 11 years ago and had a good time so decided to return in 2023, 2024 and now 2025. Over the course of the last 3 years we have seen the site gradually change with the “Clico Chic” takeover. We loved the pool now it’s been re-done. Some of the things we enjoyed over the previous two years were not available this year and so unfortunately we won’t be returning next year. Having said that, this is an excellent site if you want a) a pool that has slides and is not too deep for young children, b) family friendly fun such as dancing in the pool or c) a good base to explore local areas and beaches in St-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie of Saint-Jean-de-Monts (both are lovely!)||Some of the changes we were disappointed with:|English-style swimming trunks/shorts no longer allowed. We had to shell out €25 on the first day for the boxer/brief style fitted trunks at the local supermarket. |No camping pitches anymore - all different types of cabins instead so it can feel a little squashed at times, whereas the tent pitches dotted around have the illusion of more space.|With the removal of camping pitches came the removal of the shower block. Yes, all cabins have showers but when 4 or 6 people are sharing, it was handy to send a few to the shower block to enable a quicker turnaround!|In 2024 we were able to arrive on a Saturday and leave on a Wednesday - now all arrivals and departures are Saturday only.|We were also able to rent a bbq for 2 days in 2024 which gave us some variety in cooking- no longer available in 2025. We were told at check in that we could be put on a waiting list but we would have to rent it for the entire week and after we were put on the waiting list, we never heard anything. ||We’ll take a break elsewhere next year and keep an eye on how the site changes over the next few years. Excellent site. The only criticism I have is the welcome talk was in French. Luckily my partner is French so could translate otherwise I would have had no clue about kids clubs etc... there were German guests and British there so maybe a British welcome evening would be advantageous. Again the site is advertised as English speaking kids clubs but they spoke a bit of English to our kids but mainly in French and they didn’t like it as didn’t understand. They found the amount of children in the club a bit much. They only went once. Our eldest though loved the day out with his club to the feeling forest. It was worth the 18 Euro extra. All entertainment also in French so didn’t go much. The space for entrainment was a bit cramped too. The camp itself is lovely and safe and lots to do for the kids and they loved renting bikes for the week. Unfortunately you are told to leave your shoes outside the pool on a public pathway and our eldest sons haviana flip flops got stolen! We then took our shoes in a bag into the pool. Apparently this has happened before so maybe this needs to be reviewed?! Lots to do locally and lots of cycle paths to enjoy. Overall we loved our stay and the kids loved the pool. The slides and lazy river were a bonus. All staff very helpful and friendly. Excellent...

Pour commencer nous confirmons le ressenti de certaines personnes. Le camping pourrait descendre d’une ou deux étoiles. Pour référence nous avons fait les biches à 1 ou 2 km l’année dernière et pour 4* il était superieur en beaucoup de points. La piscine est belle mais uniquement pour les enfants car peu profonde, les gens viennent « réserver » les transats au matin (les biches en ont beaucoup plus donc il y en a assez avec une piscine intérieur et 3 bassins)

Il manque pas mal de matériel en arrivant dans le mobil home que nous devons réclamer. Cela dit, une fois réclamé, c’est arrivé en express Le restaurant ne devrait pas porter la mention restaurant mais plutôt snacking étant donné la qualité des repas assez moyen (encore une fois les biches étaient au dessus) Le patron du bar (le plus jeune) n’est pas très souriant contrairement à son collègue plus âgé. Ils ont souvent l’air débordé et effectivement une vodka red bull sans Red Bull (crazy tiger : sous marque) Les soirées sont difficiles à apprécier, en général les tables sont prises d’assaut. Beaucoup restent debout. Les toilettes sont très sales Ça manque d’animation pendant la journée. Le wifi est payant et vraiment nul (sauf au bar où il est gratuit et de bonne qualité). Pas plus de deux utilisateurs par code fourni (nous sommes 4) Un congélateur a la supérette pour des produits surgelés serait le bienvenu. Au passage la caissière est extraaaaa sympa elle coche toutes les cases en relation client. Idem pour la jeune fille de l’accueil et les maîtres nageur

Les stores du mobil home un peu rouillés et les « portes pare vue » (ce qui est une idée géniale) grincent. En dehors de ça le mobil home est propre et accueillant, l’emplacement est large on pourrait y mettre deux voitures et la terrasse couverte est top. On notera juste les accoudoirs de chaise un peu cassés, les rideaux troués au niveau des attaches et ces petites pointes de pins qui traînent partout et que l’on ramasse sous les chaussures. Ne pas se balader à pied nus car quand ça rentre, ça fait un mal de chien. Nous sommes quand même très proche d’un autre mobil home avec vis à vis sur les terrasses et que ce soit chambre, toilettes, salon ou cuisine, une fenêtre donne sur l’emplacement tente à moins d’un mètre malgré un brise vue qui arrive en dessous de la fenêtre (un peu inutile)

Le personnel est très accueillant et toujours souriant et ça c’est un vrai bon point. La location de vélo directement au camping est une bonne chose aussi. On a apprécier le petit sac pour le recyclage, le dynamisme des équipes, la propreté de la piscine et des mobil home, la grandeur du terrain de pétanque, le vigile qui fait bien son métier le soir vis à vis des ados (prévient le bruit)

Un camping où repos pour les plus âgés et piscine pour les enfants. Il faut être senior ou moins de 10 ans pour apprécier tout ce qu’il a à offrir. Nous avons plutôt passé un bon séjour mais les activités étaient surtout extérieures.
