We travelled as a family - two adults & two young children. ||This is a smaller park advertised as Eurocamp online however we realised on arrival it is taken over by a French camping company. ||We stayed in a Comfort Cabin which was clean & had enough space but I would probably upgrade to a larger cabin next time as it was lacking an oven, cupboard space & room to move around when we were all inside. On this occasion it was fine & we had everything we needed. BBQ is provided and we used this a few times. ||There is a large supermarket around 1.5km away where we bought most groceries from however there is a small shop on site serving pastries & you can buy the basics.||For kids there is a great sandpit play area & other facilities to play on .. Adventure Golf etc. ||Large pool & baby pool both heated. The water slides kept the kids entertained. The rule for men is to wear swimming trunks and not shorts. The Lifeguard did tell a few people they could not go in with their shorts on. ||The beach is a short walk which can be accessed via the main entrance or through a secure gate on the campsite. Nice beach & plenty of cycle/foot paths to walk alongside. ||The restaurant and takeaway on site serves AMAZING food. The staff working there are so busy but so friendly and helpful. Food absolutely delicious & the option to sit in the restaurant or to get a takeaway was great for us. Nothing is too much for them. ||The entertainment on an evening is all spoken in French and no translating so we struggled to join in any games etc. however we did join in the discos / foam party. ||The site seems to attract groups of younger clientele - 18 years approx. who appeared to be friends with the French reps so it could sometimes feel like we were at their party and not a family site. This may have just been the time we went & may not be the same all the time. ||We were told on the first day we could not eat or drink around the big pool but could if we went up to the sun lounger area on the upper terrace. The following day we did this and were served food and drink through the bar hatch & the life guard then told us we could not eat or drink here either. This seems a ridiculous rule for people on holiday. ||You are required to leave your shoes at the entrance to the swimming pool. But the poolside toilet can get quite wet & doesn’t feel hygienic when you are forced to be barefoot. Urinals are in the same area as the unisex cubicle - something to be aware of when sending children to the toilet on their own. ||Overall, an enjoyable stay with only a few negatives. I would recommend this site & believe your holiday is what...
Read moreI want to start by saying our rep from Roan Camping was absolutely on the ball and if this review was just based on her I would be giving 5 stars. ||||The campsite is dusty with just dirt roads in between the chalets. The whole place needs a lot of tlc. Hedges weren’t cut, weeds growing up under the accommodations, the pool is run down. ||||The restaurant is a disaster, your drinks could arrive 20 minutes after your meal arrives and that’s after it taking a further 30 minutes to give your order in the first place. The food is average at best. ||||The pool: the layout of the pool is strange. There are these big fake rocks around it that block the view of the pool. Not good when you are trying to take care of children. ||||When you walk into the pool area each day they are filling a foot bath with a hose but the hose is across the path and a total trip hazard. ||||The toilet by the pool is communal, you must pass the urinals to get to the toilet and then you must stand in a puddle of wet on the floor in the toilet. Quiet an unpleasant experience given what could be actually in that water. ||||The ‘lifeguards’ are a disaster. They are too busy on their phones, talking to their friends and chatting up young girls to notice what’s going on in the pool. My child had an accident in the pool, the lifeguard never saw it because he was chatting to his friend, when I called him he gave no assistance or first aid. He just threw his eyes up to the sky at his friend and walked away. We asked in reception for an on call doctor but none could be reached. It is shocking that a campsite of this size doesn’t have a first aider or doctor on staff. We ended up in the local A and E. ||||The price charged does not reflect the quality of the campsite. I would not...
Read moreWe had a real mixed bag of a stay - a great holiday, but mainly due to the people we met up with rather than the site or facilities.
The site is very cramped, with no real outdoor space between the chalets other than for parking.
Our 10 year old son had his bike stolen from outside the bar/shop area on the second day. There is a very busy cycle path that runs right past the entrance to the site, and a traveller site just down the road. While I am not saying that either of these were the reason for the theft, with these vulnerabilities I was very surprised that the site had no security, CCTV etc. especially to cover these busy areas around the shop/bar/playground. My wife reported the theft to the staff on site and they couldn’t have cared less, she asked if they would give any kind of discount on a rental bike but was turned down flat.
The pool is quite nice and was warm, but it closes quite early and was generally very busy.
The shop opening times are a complete lottery. I don’t know why they bother having times on the door.
The bar was decent, and had some quite good live music etc. but just needed a bit of a spruce-up. For example all 3 pool tables had tears in the cloths.
The play area is quite limited, there is a playground and a very small multi sports area, but no fields or anything to have a kick around in.
The beach is stunning, but not sandy, and the waves are often powerful - great for surfing, but there was only one day during our week that the kids could play in the sea.
This area of France is lovely, with loads to see and do, and the Roan chalets were as ever lovely. However, the site feels a bit tired and very cramped, we won’t...
