We stayed in the mobile home as a family in August 2022. Our home had rather central location but luckily far from evening entertainment. We were also lucky with the neighbours. They all had kids and went to sleep early. The only noise at night was due to the badly made manhole cover on the road near our house which made a loud noise when someone stepped on it. The house was rather new and very convenient. Parking was a bit tricky but feasible. On some nights it was quite hot but not so bad as I expected, so you can survive without aircon even in August.||||We rented bikes and explored the region by bikes, so we almost didn't use a car. You can bike to the ocean through the forest. The ocean is VERY cold even during hot and dry weather in August, so don't expect to swim a lot. The rental bikes in the camping were very basic and some of them had problems with gears. If you can rent elsewhere, do it. Also it's hard to find a proper bike for 8 yo, our son had to use smaller bike.||||The shop at the camping is very basic, so if you want to cook you probably will have to go to hypermarket (5 min by car, 10 min by bike). The restaurant can be full in the evening so make a reservation or use alternatives (food truck or pizza take away). The meals are tasty and the prices are OK.||||We didn't have to use shared sanitary facilities but I went to check them out of curiosity and found them to be super clean.||||The water slides are quite slow and you can stuck in the middle. To me they were not very interesting but my kids liked them.||||The majority of the holiday makers are French (maybe more than 95%) with a few British families. I didn't hear any other languages during the whole stay. Most of the staff can speak English, so the language is not a problem. But the kids won't find a company if they don't speak French, though the French kids are very friendly and try to start a conversation.||||In general I had a very good impression from the camping. I am surprised to read bad reviews below. Maybe someone was unlucky with location. Our family had a...
Read moreCamping Le Chateau is a lovely and friendly campsite located on the outskirts of the town of St. Hilaire de Riez. The site hosts a number of swimming pools with those colourful and impressive slides standing tall! Close to the campsite entrance, there is a bar, restaurant and take away, as well as a small grocery store selling basic provisions, including a limited amount of freshly baked goods. A large Super U is located just 5 minutes away by car. The campsite accommodation is split across two areas of land either side of a one way single lane roadway. ||||We stayed on the campsite for 14 nights from 29th July to 12th August, and though peak season the campsite was still very comfortable. We rented a 3 bedroom Confort mobile which was very well equipped and was located on the quieter side of the two locations. Shower and laundry services are also available in various locations around the campsite and have to say from what I saw were kept very clean. The entertainments team are very busy on site keeping children amused, and there is the usual nightly entertainment programme (themed evening, bingo, foam party, disco, etc.) ||||A half hour walk through the forest brings you to a fantastic stretch of beach, with some areas patrolled by lifeguards. And as it is France, cycle lanes are everywhere! St. Hilaire de Riez is a small seaside town, with shops, bars and restaurants located close to the beach area. Approximately 3 km further along the coastline is the larger town of St Gilles de Croix which is a bustling town that has a great range of shops, restaurants, and a small harbour, etc. ||||This is our 9th or 10th camping holiday in France, and though the "kids" are mid teens and young adults, they still this type of holiday and were quite impressed with Camping Le Chateau and its beautiful...
Read moreA really nice site but ruined by the lack of management regarding late night noise.||The slides are great, as is the play area. The toilets and showers are clean, but being French they don't have toilet seats etc.||We have a Camper Van, and like the other tourers we struggled to find toilet and waste water emptying points. In fact there aren't any, hence the struggle, and we were directed to the one traditional French style 'hole in the ground' toilet, which doesn't have facilities to clean up after emptying.||We are pitched near the main bar, so although the music blares out until midnight most nights, (and randomly throughout the day) we can live with it. The issue is caused by groups of kids screaming and shouting until 2am - the management seem happy with this and it usually takes an angry camper to finally make the peace. ||The site is predominately static mobile homes, and sensibly the owners have chosen to buy the pitches furthest from the bar. This leaves the touring pitches closest to the 'nightlife'||Location wise, there's a Hyper U about 5 minutes away by bike, and the beach is only a little further. There are great cycle paths near by that mean the car isn't needed all holiday. ||Overall then it all looks great in the photos, and generally during the day it lives up to expectation of a 5 star site. From 10pm it turns into a local night club, and there's nowhere to hide if you're on a...
