To be transparent, I did not want to stay at Château de Perreux even before we arrived, due to a deeply frustrating experience involving the owner, Olivier Fructus. The previous night, my daughter, son-in-law, and two young granddaughters checked in only to discover that their reserved room had been given away. They were placed instead in a two-level turret room, connected by a narrow spiral staircase — entirely unsuitable for small children. There was only one bathroom, requiring constant trips up and down the staircase, and the room was uncomfortably hot.||The owner insisted this was the room they had booked and argued with them at length before finally realizing his mistake. Even then, he never made any effort to reconcile the situation. His attitude was defensive, dismissive, and unacceptable.||The issues didn’t end there. The rooms are sparsely furnished with mismatched furniture, the bed linens are rough, and the towels are thin and worn. We chose not to eat breakfast there for two reasons: the €17 price did not seem worth it, and it wasn’t served until 8:00 a.m., too late for our planned day of sightseeing. We had to leave early to meet our family at another location.||As for the property itself, whatever exterior charm the château may once have had is completely lost once you step inside. The interior is dark, musty, and poorly maintained. The owner explains this by pointing out that the back of the building is a cave — yet we visited many wine caves and troglodyte dwellings across France without encountering this kind of damp, unpleasant atmosphere. His explanation about reducing energy usage for environmental reasons seems more like an excuse for cutting costs at the expense of guest comfort.||The photos online do not reflect the current condition of the property. The fountain is dry, the rooms are drab, and the overall state of the interior is in shambles. It’s clear this place is being run on the cheap, and it shows — which is a disgrace for a property that calls itself a château. We had meals at and visited similar properties in the region, and frankly, we wish we had stayed at any one of...

Beautiful hotel with a cozy atmosphere, spacious rooms, and a charming property. Unfortunately, our experience was marred by how the owner handled a mistake with our booking — and his overall attitude toward guests.
We had booked a stay that clearly included breakfast for both days. However, at checkout, the owner insisted we pay an extra €59 for the breakfasts — despite it being part of our confirmed reservation. His response was dismissive and unprofessional: “I don’t know where my bookings come from.” Rather than taking any responsibility, he left it to us to call around and figure out who was at fault.
After wasting a significant part of our morning trying to resolve something that should never have been our responsibility, the owner finally admitted it was an issue with his collaborator, Hotelstays.com, and offered to refund us. But only after we chased him down and insisted on it.
To make matters worse, this same “included breakfast” consisted of just one egg. Yes, one egg — and when we asked for an omelette, he literally used one egg to make it. No extra portions, no gesture of goodwill — just the bare minimum. Honestly, it came across as cheap and unkind, not hospitable.
This is not a budget hotel, and we expected at least basic professionalism and a decent breakfast. Instead, we were treated like an inconvenience, not guests.
Lastly, we’ve noticed that reviews that mention these issues seem to disappear — it appears the hotel does everything possible to delete or bury criticism. That in itself speaks volumes.
We won’t be returning. Hopefully future guests are treated with more respect...
Read moreOur trip around France was a little all over. We started in Paris, went through Versailles, and then the Loire valley up to Normandy/Bayuex, and back to Paris. By far my favorite part of the trip was our stay at Chateau de Perreux in Amboise.
The room was absolutely amazing with gorgeous celling beams and a beautiful walk in shower and private bathroom, three huge windows overlooking the grounds, a very comfortable bed, a great workspace if you need to catch up on emails, and an absolutely stunning view out the windows.
We ate dinner and breakfast at the Chateau and both were amazing. The menu is changed daily as far as I know and prepared fresh every day. The staff made sure to ask about any food allergies or restrictions before our arrival (my wife has a gluten issue) and accommodated us without any sacrifice to quality and taste.
The staff and team were so incredibly helpful I cannot thank them enough. Every question, no matter how dumb it seemed to us (for example we couldn't understand our rental car people, and weren't sure what kind of gas it was required, and they told us exactly what to do), was answered and addressed with the utmost class and concern for our comfort and happiness. They will make sure every little thing is taken care of for you and go well above and beyond to make sure you enjoy your stay. They will give you every bit of advice to get the most out of your trip.
This place was truly a pleasure to stay at and a great way to see the...
