We broke our journey to the ferry here on a steaming hot July afternoon. Our charming host greeted us and our dog with such hospitality we felt like long lost friends. ||We rested in our huge and splendidly decorated room, cool and tranquil after tearing up the motorway; the window open letting in a breeze where no where else seemed to have one; the view of cows grazing around mature trees, and a beautiful horse cavorting on the lawn. You could easily imagine yourself a duchess wafting about in this house. ||||We had requested dinner. Apperitifs were served in the drawing room, a very welcome blanc de blanc in crystal glasses and Le Mans and Historic anecdotes from our host, who speaks beautiful English. We ate like kings in the huge dining room and dinner was perfection. Locally sourced and interesting pates. The finest steak I can remember, and a tiny chocolate dessert. Read moreChateau Eporce is a fantastic 18th Century building that has 25 rooms but still maintains a warm family atmosphere due mainly to the host and his family who have been in residence for many generations. The rooms used by the guests are full of interesting objects d'art and period furniture - every corner of every room has something interesting to look at and amuse.||||We also arranged to have an evening meal prepared by our hosts wife, which included an aperitif, 3 courses, wine and coffee in the dining room which had a lovely log fire. The homemade pear licquer which we tried was really good.||||A fantastic stay made even more enjoyable by our host who welcomed us into his home more as family...

We enjoyed the complimentary wine and the wonderful home cooked three course meal. The next morning we had home-grown, home-made preserves. |And we could quietly enjoy the salon reading old newspapers (of our own) while the owners went for errands.|La douce France...
