Our visit to Domaine a Marmande was idyllic in every way--from the long driveway with beautiful farm fields on either side, to the spacious veranda from which we enjoyed the late afternoon sun with a glass of wine, to the delicious meals prepared by hosts Charles and Caroline, to the lovely walks , visits to nearby towns and chateaux--everyday was a delight to the senses. We were able to travel a short way and visit Lourdes and the Cathedral there; as well as the Pyrenees for a drive over the Col d'Espin; we spent a wonderful day in Saint Jean-du-Luz, bustling, charming town on the Atlantic ocean, with beautful vistas, lovely shops and terrific food. Charles and Caroline are incomparable hosts, able to assist us with any question or desire we expressed to complete our experience of their wonderful courtryside. ||||The rooms are spacious, bright, comfortably appointed and beautiful. And we both slept incredibly well every night of our stay.||||I didn't have the opportunity to experience a massage with Charles, but look forward to doing so when we visit next time. Though I don't know when that will be, I am positive that it will happen! We had such a terrific time there and truly felt restored when we departed. I only wished that we could have stayed...
Read moreWe passed 12 restful days in Domaine a Marmande. We stayed in one of the two gites (fully furnished apartments). Our gite was cozy and charming: wood-burning stove, comfortable bed, complete facilities to cook "at home." We visited the other gite and two chambre d'hotes (bed-and-breakfast units): all were equally well-furnished, pretty, comfortable. The grounds show loving care; although well tended, they have an air of being free- butterflies, flowers, vines, bird song. There is a swimming pool, which we did not use, due to cool weather; however, we saw Charles, one of the owners, care for the pool every day. Marmande is an historic place; we cherished every minute of our stay, and felt embraced by a sense of peace and rest. Charles Aronson and Caroline van Berkel, the owners, are gracious and generous people. They love the Gers, and will share information about visiting the historic and enchanting towns and castles of the Gers. We have to go back to Domaine a Marmande, because we love this place, and its aura of rest...
Read moreWe had booked a week at this B&B in mid-July, expecting warm/hot summer weather in the south of France, only to be very disapppointed - as so many millions of other tourists all over France - to have had a rather cold and rainy week.||Nevertheless we had a wonderfully relaxing week, exploring the surroundings (bastide villages) and visiting different sites (Auch, Condom, Lourdes etc.).||Our hosts Caroline and Charles made sure that we felt welcome, Caroline preparing a wonderful welcome dinner for us on the day of arrival.||We were able to sleep very well on very good beds and enjoy the delicious breakfasts prepared by Charles. A couple afternoons we were lucky enough to enjoy a bit of sun and relax reading by the pool. ||Although we were unlucky with the weather, we can imagine what a top place this will be when the weather is perfect, sunny and warm and we will definitely recommend this B&B for everyone who needs a getaway from their busy, hectic lifes and just wants to relax by the pool, reading, enjoying the...
