We stayed for a few days to break up our journey from the South of France.||All the staff we met were very friendly, warm and welcoming. After checking in at reception, a lovely lady lead the way on her bike to our pitch, and pointed out the nearby amenities.||The pool was clean and well presented with interesting features to keep the children busy. It was difficult to get a sun lounger, and we often resorted to sitting on the uncomfortable plastic chairs, this was however at peak season.||The pitches had some good privacy hedges to give you a nice space for relaxing.||Unfortunately, there are quite a few negatives to share, which has strongly affected the rating.||The bar and restaurant wasn't very inviting. Trying to get past multiple people smoking at the doorway, and at the pool table inside to get to the bar never gives a great first impression for a 5 star holiday resort. The décor is tired and miserable.||The boulangerie where bread and pastries could be collected from in the morning, was also in this bar area. A few pallets strapped to a make shift counter to create a desk. It wouldn't take a lot of time or attention to sort make this more professional and pleasant. In this area, was also a fridge and shelves with a few random overpriced food items.||We paid for a Comfort pitch, which included a water tap, and drain for a fully serviced experience. The first issue was that the natural location for the caravan required me to purchase a 25 meter hose and waste pipe to connect up. The second issue, was that there were no markings on the tap to indicate it was private to our pitch. The tap and waste point was right in the middle of many other pitches, so our water was constantly being disconnected and used by the other site users, so in the end we gave up. I feel that the site management have just re-assigned the use of a communal tap, in an attempt to make more money from a 'comfort pitch'. Either move it onto the pitch, or simply add a sign.||Toilets... The showers, sinks and washing facilities are old but clean and tidy. The toilets, and urinals are disgusting. The smell especially around the urinals is revolting.||There was an entertainment schedule listed on the noticeboard at the courtyard, but we went up every night, and it looked to have been cancelled. Maybe the schedule signage was from last year.||Final thoughts...|The site and the people are nice enough, but overall, all the features are old and tired, and require a lot of money spending on them for a renovation. I can completely see that 20 years ago, this would have been a vibrant and beautiful site, but it hasn't been maintained properly since, so now the bar and restaurant are uninviting, the restaurant windows look out over an overgrown green algae lake, and all the amenities are poorly maintained. The outdoor pool area is again dated, but it is clean and...
Read moreWe booked this site having been to other Castels sites (& having a very positive experience) and as rated at 5* we had high expectations. I emailed before booking to check if there was availability for our large caravan with sufficient space to manoeuvre. I was assured to be booked onto a 180sqm pitch with private toilet / shower facilities.||Upon arrival after a very long day of travel we were shown to our pitch after a lengthy wait at a chaotic reception. The pitch was very small and in our view nowhere near the alleged 180 sqm we booked. The grass was long and uncut in some time, with broken bush / hedging to one side and gaps. There was a car blocking the pitch as there were insufficient parking spaces for the static mobile homes adjacent. There was already a camper on what I would describe as half of our pitch with washing strung out between their van and a tree, which the reception man said was the “border”. He just shrugged his shoulders when we said it was not as we expected and left.||We had to ask adjacent pitches to move their cars to enable us to manoeuvre our caravan onto the pitch. It was difficult to get onto with a twin axle caravan. The site was uneven & sloping. People kept cutting through pitches. ||Positive point - bathroom / shower unit on pitch was clean and convenient for our use. Not sure it was worth the high additional cost.||Many facilities on site such as pool, kids entertainment, restaurant and bar which is presumably how the site achieves a 5* rating. We used the bar area. Staff were friendly but there was no real atmosphere. Drinks were expensive -€7.50 for half litre beer.||The following day we decided to leave ( we would have left when we arrived but with no where else to go / very late we chose to stay). In total we were charged €196 for one nights stay. We refused to pay the full cost of what we booked (9 nights) as the pitch was inadequate for our caravan, too small and uneven. The cost was extortionate in our view for a one night stay. ||Most certainly it was not to our expectations and not what we would have expected from a Castel site. Very poorly tended, unkempt grounds overall. (observed a gardener just snipping an odd piece off a bush - they needed a good shear - very odd!) Bins were overflowing with rubbish in communal areas.||Pitches “shoe horned” in, cramped and far too small. No outlook or view from the site. Felt very claustrophobic. Lots of unruly kids running around/ cycling/ shouting about the site. ( I guess to be expected for August however due to such close proximity of pitches absolutely zero privacy, space or peace) ||Very unrelaxing & stressful experience! This site has put us off visiting any other Castel sites in the future ( other than those we...
Read moreThis was the last campsite on our family road trip. We booked this site as we heard the Les Castels sites were amazing! However, we were very let down with this site.||We were told check in was until 8pm but as we were stuck in a storm we rang to say we'd be there for 7.30pm bearing in mind it took us 11hours to get from the bottom of france to this site and they said that's fine we'll tape your camping details to the door. ||The pitch was very spacious and had a tree for shelter, which was great for the next day as it gets very hot in france.||The toilet block was only a minute away, but it's basically outside with a shelter, not what I was expecting at all! But at least they had toilet paper.||The showers were clean and warm but very cramped together.||The pools were great fun for us all. We never tried the inside pool as it was so hot we stayed outside.||The canoeing was a good activity an hour for 5 euros for us all. Good sized lake, although I wouldn't like to fall, not the cleanest.||On our first night, we went to the on-site pub/restaurant VERY disappointed. The lady wasn't welcoming at all. We ordered food at the bar and paid straight away, and then she asked for a tip. I personally dont five tips unless we actually get table service, to which we didn't.||After we didn't give her a tip, I think it pissed her off as we were told to sit anywhere, no cutlery, place mat, or sauces like everyone else had. I went to ask for some more mayo as my husband had to go find some beforehand but we wanted some more and the guy at the bar said yes no problem but then the woman said something in French and he came back and said sorry we dont have any! Laughable. If she had given good service, she would have been given a tip.||On our last night we were having a drink outside with some lovely people we'd met there we wasn't being loud just talking and the lady who runs the place came past on her golf buggy and said shh. It was 10pm, and the noise limit doesn't apply until 11pm. ||Then she escorted a tow caravan in the past 11 pm, talking loudly with the family. I wasn't impressed.||The day of leaving had a good time limit as check out wasn't until noon, so we had plenty of time, although the ground keepers kept coming to check and see if we'd left yet.||They do offer toilets on the campsite but it's extra and I didn't see that option but I'd definitely recommend that as they looked good.||Overall, we had a good stay, but what made it was the friends we'd made and the outside pool. Wouldn't...
