Firstly I want to emphasise we were here for a wedding, and didn't intend on spending too much time in the establishment, having many friends to catch up with while we were in France, but we still very much enjoyed our stay. |We stayed in Le Pigionnier. Part of the very old house. There was a more modern house across a very quiet road (where our parking was allocated).|The points which, although didn't affect our enjoyment, may well be a consideration for other travellers, especially if you plan to spend longer hours here.||There were no tea or coffee making facility in the room. This may be normal for French B & B though, so not so much a criticism as personal choice.||There was a basic (although very tasty) breakfast of bread, cheese, yoghurt and assortment of jams. No cereal, fresh fruit, pastries or cold meats. The owners may have been able to provide a more extended breakfast menu, but we didn't need it, so didn't ask.|There is no television, radio or clock in the room.|The lighting is low, with none in the shower / sink room.|Due to steps in the older house, it wouldn't be suitable for people with mobility issues. For these disabilities, the more modern house may be a better option.||||The hospitality of the owners was outstanding. Their knowledge of their home and local area was fabulous, and they were willing to share this with guests.||The area, for us, was wonderful. The only noises were birdsong. True peace and quiet.|The bed was wonderfully comfortable, and with small windows either end of the room, it enabled a cool, gentle breeze while outside it was a still 30 degrees!|The grounds are large and very pretty. This really is a country retreat, so if tranquility is your thing, with mile after mile of French fields, then this is the ideal place.|||||If you are looking for all mod cons, this may not be the place for you, but as a getaway from the rat race with basic provision from your B & B, it is ideal.||A vehicle...
Read moreBeautiful and well appointed gite situated in equally delightful countryside. The host was exceptionally welcoming, despite us calling (and arriving) quite late in the evening. Stayed in the 'Découverte' themed room which we found to be comfortable and clean with a pleasant bathroom. The host explained the unique decor and told us the interesting history of the furnishings. We made use of the communal kitchen and dining area, which offers all necessities to prepare a meal, handy for us as vegetarians. The included breakfast was the best of our holiday, with generous amounts of bread, jam, cheese, yoghurt, hot and cold drinks - all of which were either home made or originating in the local area. I would not hesitate to recommend La Hérissonnière as an ideal base for exploring the local area. Dennis our host indicated interesting locations nearby for us to visit on our bicycles, further helping to make our brief stay as pleasurable as possible. We hope to return here one day for a much longer holiday. Many thanks for the exceptional...
Read moreStayed here as an overnight stop. I suspect like other guests we were placed in the separate house across the road rather than in the advertised medieval home of the host. The accommodation was OK for us with lots of birdlife. The breakfast was average. We have stayed in the Orbec area a number of times - there are few places to eat in the evening - the Italian on the corner by church is very...
