Some Enchanted Evening.......
Chateau St. Victor la Coste is the epitome of all my dreams...a magical setting with history, beauty, and best of all: warm-hearted souls who truly care about their historical chateau and those that stay there. I left with the feeling I'd made new friends. Alison and Kostas are the heart of this place-- kind, loving, and the ultimate hosts. (If you prefer an impersonal place, this is NOT it.) You will be treated like family, with respect to your personal preferences. Want to laze in solitude by the sparkling pool? You've got it. Want to socialize and learn more about the village of St. Victor la Coste, the chateau's history, or the 12 century castle ruins above? You've got it.
I came to the Chateau because of my friend Donna who had stayed there before and fallen in love with it. Donna made my first visit to France possible, and it was beyond my wildest expectations. The food, wine, people, landscapes. While staying at the Chateau, I was touched by how Alison and Kostas are loving to their cats (and neighborhood cats too!). That says much about their hearts.
Donna and I were there for the "Taste of Provence" weekend, which included a cooking class with top-chef Alison (you'll LOVE her lavender kitchen walls and huge stove, tall windows, and a Monet-worthy kitchen table). We visited village markets, shopped for pottery, visited a vineyard, learned about Rhone wines, and shared marvelous dinners together. I made friends from Ireland, England, and so forth: what a beautiful group of people! Kindred spirits seem to be drawn to this magic place with magic people. As an artist, I appreciated every nuance: the lovely setting, the blue skies, fragrant roses, tiled roofs, birds singing. Plus, love-ins with a purring kitty.
Breakfast is an assortment of fresh French breads, pastries, fruits, and more. If the village's restaurant is open, walk down and enjoy a lovely salad and French vine on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Don't hurry....it's the French way of life to enjoy, to savor.
You'll find that Alison and Kostas are knowledgeable hosts and can recommend where to visit, where to eat, local markets and just about anything you need! Need a band-aid? Ask Kostas for a "plaster". Alison will find one for you! They're down-to-earth and hard-working, but always have time for their guests. Indeed, you are family here.
I find myself already missing them, the Chateau, those cats, the sheer beauty of it all. Would I return? In a heartbeat. Merci beaucoup!!! Dreams do...

Read moreMy wife and I were there last week with another couple for our 3-day visit to Southern France. Unfortunately, the experience was not a good one. Upon our entrance into the room, my wife noticed multiple bed bugs crawling on the bed. We called the owner (Costas, the husband) to view the situation. He looked (as well as another guest) and told me how they have never had bed bugs before, but acknowledged that he saw them, and then said, "what can I say?".||My wife and I left since we had no desire to sleep on a bed with active crawling bed bugs. We had paid over $1000 for the 3 night stay. We have traveled all over the world and stayed in 4-5 star accommodations and have never had to write a negative review. And yes, this Chateau was highly recommended, so we did not go into booking this Chateau blindly. We figured that when the owner's wife (Alison) came home later that night, that we would talk to her and get a reassurance that this was serious and would be handled so someone else didn't have the same experience. We also thought they would give us a full refund. Just the opposite. Nothing but denial that the there was any evidence of bugs. I sent her the pictures and a video. She became extremely rude and denied any refund. Not even an apology. See insert of picture of bed bugs that was taken in the room. ||On top of the bed bug problem, we had a room that was difficult to get up to, an extremely old lumpy mattress and stairs up to a bathroom with no railing up and around the landing. Very dangerous. See other photo.||We made a last-minute reservation at the Le Vieux Castillon, which was about 20 minutes away, and it could not have been nicer. Fabulous hotel. Very Clean and service...
