After last year's premiere we went to Lantosque again for several reasons: amazing roads, incredible views, and the hospitality of Peter and Stuart of the Les Hortensias. Our expectations were greatly fullfilled in every aspect. ||Just as last year, we used Les Hortensias as base for daily motorcycle trips. There is plenty of curvy roads in the area, the range includes Col de la Bonette, Gorges du Verdon, Col de Turini...the density of curvy roads even tops the one of South Tyrol...||Also if one wants to hike there is plenty to do in Lantosque, though we never tried that (yet). But Peter and Stuart are always willing to assist with suggestions. ||The motorcycles were again savely parked under the carport.||The room and breakfast were very good as ever. We always look forward to the bed in the room in Les Hortensias, it is very comfy and large. ||The outside sitting place had been improved with a curtain againast the wind, which proved to be very useful, as this year we also had 2 rather not so good days in terms of the weather. ||As we had some experience with guests from the US that had evidently come with wrong expectations, here is what you will find in Les Hortensias:||- very tidy rooms with a relaxing bed and nice baths, all showing a lot of attention to detail||- free and fast WLAN||- a lot of space in the pool/terrasse area||- very tasty breakfast with fresh fuit/croissants||- a nice sitting place/outside kitchen where one can make barbeque or prepare other kind of meals||- parking place for car/motorcycles||- two super helpful and caring hosts||What you will not find:||- services that a big 50 bed hotel would provide||- a place that is easy to reach with public transportation (you can do a lot from Lantosque even to get to Nice by bus, but as for a daily trip to the mountains or the supermarket, coming with a vehicle of your own is highly recommended).||We love it at Les Hortensias, if you know what to expect you will not be disappointed at all. A very nice place to spend relaxing days and refill your...
Read moreWe had a fantastic stay at Les Hortensias last month. Having spend a couple of weeks down on the coast visiting the gorgeous coastal towns of Juan Les Pins, Cannes, Antibes and Nice, we took a scenic 40 min drive to spend the last few days of our holidays exploring the mountains. |Les Hortensias presented us with most unexpected luxury in a rural and rustic setting, there was certainly nothing else like it in the valley. |The rooms were stylish in decor - the beds/pillows were extremely comfortable, the air conditioning very quiet and most effective, the ensuite was very spacious with both bath and shower. Our bedroom had doors that opened onto a little terrace where we sat for coffee in the mornings whilst taking in the stunning mountain views. |We were served a delicious breakfast on the terrace by the host Peter, who couldn't have been more helpful during our stay. Peter is very knowledgeable about the area (and indeed the French Riviera in general) and gave us directions for some beautiful walks in the Gordolasque valley where we had a lovely picnic (Peter can provide picnics with a bit of notice). The mountain air is so fresh, what a beautiful place.|Lantosque itself is a quaint little village, it has a few bars and restaurants which, while rustic, provide good quality food at very reasonable prices. After a lazy afternoon by the pool at Les Hortensias (which was a most unexpected benefit of staying here) we went into the town for a pizza supper and including wine spent less than €35 with lovely, friendly service.|I can't recommend it enough and we will definitely be going back - so much...
Read moreWe have just returned from the most beautiful stay at Les Hortensias. We had no idea we would find ourselves in such a beautiful oasis surrounded by the craggy mountains of the Alpes-Maritimes in a quaint and beautiful village with its church bells pealing Dvorjak’s New World Symphony across the valley. We were lucky enough to see an eagle and we could hear the goats with their bells in the distance.||Les Hortensias guest suite was second to none, impeccably clean, the most comfortable king size bed with beautiful linen. The room was stylish and streamlined with doors opening on to the fabulous views over the mountains. The quietest air conditioning was available if required; a very smart grey tiled en suite shower room was stocked with l’Occitane products. Fresh bottles of water were put in our room each day and coffee and tea laid out for guests. Our hosts Peter and Stuart looked after us like royalty in a very discreet way. The breakfast was pure luxury with their signature tropical fruit platter served at the table and freshly baked croissants from the local village boulangerie. Freshly squeezed juice, coffee and a variety of teas made a wonderful start to the day, all served under a stone pillared gazebo overlooking the pool, garden and mountains. The outdoor kitchen is a great addition with fridge for keeping the all-important rose and drinks cool. We couldn’t have asked for more, it was pure unadulterated heaven on earth. Thank you for the most wonderful find. We...
