the driveway is seriously steep (especially if you are on a bicycle!) and not in the best of repair.||the chateau is magnificent as are its surroundings, and i could ramble on and on about this place and its history etc||||first impressions are (were) almost that it was run as a commune, and even now i am not certain who the people and children were when we arrived.||we were eventually met by the gardener(?) and in due course etienne (son of the owners) put in an appearance. - pretty scruffy, but delightful and charming.||||our rooms were fantastic with amazing views - but the bathrooms were interesting to say the least; perhaps "with gallic plumbing and fitments" would be kindest!||||when telling etienne that we were dining in the town (i'm not sure if it was possible to eat in), he insisted on being our taxi in both directions.||||breakfast was a bit non-descript, and it amused that one of the cups had its handle broken off, which rather sums up the place - but i/we would not have missed staying here for the world; it was unforgettable from many angles||||but to whom to recommend?||certainly not for the fastidious, so more likely to appeal to the rather laid-back young couple with adventure and romanticism...

We were allowed to explore the entire building (except rooms occupied by others) and he even provide a guided tour to areas we missed. ||The property is very large and pleasant to walk around and well set back from the road which made it all the more pleasant.||The near by town of Ste. Astier had a good collection of restaurants, boulangeries and shops and a great town to walk around including exploding then nearby river.||There is a separate building containing a very large hall that apparently is used for weddings and other large gatherings.||If you were in the area and want to stay in a fairy book castle this is the...
