The Chateau is large and can accommodate a large number of people. We rented a separate cottage for our overflow which is very close to the chateau. If the following were corrected we would give a higher rating. We encountered a number of issues during our two week stay. There were multiple plumbing issues, one of which eliminated the use of an ensuite bathroom for about 10 days. The house needs to be fumigated as we had ants, many roaches (all floors) and a few mice. The unoccupied attic is full or debris and could be a haven for rodents. The internet was very spotty in the house. It was primarily available in the LR which made private conversations difficult -we could not reliably get service. We. had the same internet issue in the cottage. Some inside maintenance on the property has been poorly done (i.e., packing tape holding ceiling fans together and curtain rods, paint is peeling off showers and sinks, ceiling fixtures have exposed wires - I have pictures). There is a tripping hazard at the front door where they have removed stones and not repaired properly. The lighting fixture in the DR began to fall down (and continued to fall ) and was not repaired even though it was promptly reported. When reporting these issues (post visit) through Airbnb, the owners were not very supportive and implied the renters were the cause of the rodents, plumbing problems, etc. The house manager failed to offer to reimburse the renters for linens and towels not delivered or cancelled. The renovation spoken about in advertisement and reviews is now 8 years old and is very tired (furniture is saggy, paint peeling, a washing machine not working, etc). It doesn't appear that the two showers were included in the renovation as they appear to be old and have peeling paint. On a positive note the kitchen is well appointed with equipment (although the cabinets need painting). There are two living rooms and a nice dining room. We enjoyed the pool except for the bees. If you keep your windows open at night watch out for bats. We had one visit us one evening in...
Read moreWe are sadly on our way home from a wonderful stay at the Montbazillac cottage: we are a family of 3 and had a very comfortable stay. The cottage is spacious, and comfortable. Pool is a very short walk away, even in peak season we always able to have a sun lounger. The house stays cool downstairs, upstairs gets very hot, we had over 40 degree heat. It has no air conditioning. A few fans are supplied we bought our own one, which helped. You will need to stock up on supplies Before you arrive, the nearest shop is an Intermache 15 mins drive away, reasonably priced. Remember shops shut on Sunday and close for a few hours during the day. (Some)
Downside flies & bugs. Everywhere! Nothing to do with the cottage, but you are in the middle of the countryside and there are fruit trees all over. Flies are everywhere, you get used to them, but repellants and antihistamines if like me you are allergic to bites it’s a must! I would suggest nets over the beds, as you what to leave a window open for the cool air at night, but I was eaten alive. We had a wasps nest outside the cottage but it was dealt with promptly, Agnes is lovely, communication is good. Thank you for a lovely stay at your...
