I was sceptical about booking this property, there being no reviews on the website through which I booked, but I read the reviews for other listings on the same property and assumed that the accommodation would be clean and basic. What a shock we had on arrival. Others had written that Evan was hospitable and welcoming and that the accommodation was clean. We found the complete opposite. On arrival we spent 10 minutes wandering the grounds of what is a beautiful building in unkempt grounds. We finally found somebody who went to fetch Evan. He was completely unaware that we were his guests despite 2 messages via the booking website and a text when we were an hour away. He showed us to the apartment which is in a shared building adjacent to the chateau and offered no advice. When I asked if there was any information available his reply was that he was the information! He reluctantly then told us of 3 towns in which to eat and where to find the path for the walk to the river and mill. It all felt like too much trouble so I asked no further questions. On entering the apartment we were shocked at the state of the place but had driven 4 hours to get there and had little choice but to stay the night. One might think that we should have complained straight away but we are both elderly, my husband has some disabilities and to be honest we were both rather shell shocked. So we decided to soldier on and make the best of it. ||The apartment itself was disgusting. I expected something clean but basic in a beautiful park with a lovely pool and to be able to relax for a couple of days. What we found was a dirty, shabby place in the most unkempt grounds with a dirty swimming pool. The whole place was dirty and shabby. The furniture was like something from a skip and the kitchen appliances were rusty.||The apartment itself was described as having an equipped kitchen. It had one tumbler, one wine glass and not even a corkscrew. The shower was black with mold and the handset leaked so badly that more water came out of the fitting than the shower head. The toilet was brown and stained and the bathroom smelled strongly of urine. The basin had a crack which had been repaired with paint!! but still leaked. The bin in the kitchen was so smelly we had to put it outside the door. The list of faults is endless, these are the worst that spring to mind. As for the "park", everywhere is overgrown and the pool was dirty and the liner ripped and hanging into the water at the edges. On our final morning a cockroach scuttled across the floor of the kitchen., this was the final straw and we packed and left very quickly. There was nobody about to hand the key to and we didn't see Evan once during our stay. Thank goodness we only booked 2 nights in this place it really is the worst accommodation that I have ever had and £179 for 2 nights was a complete...
Read moreThis is the worst property that I have ever stayed in. It was dirty and shabby. We were in apartment D. The kitchen equipment was rusty. The shower black with mold and the toilet was brown and stained, and the bathroom had a strong smell of urine. The furniture was like something from a skip. The grounds were unkempt and the pool was dirty with the liner ripped and falling into the water. How anyone could leave a good review for this place is astonishing. I cannot imagine that the other apartments are any better as they are in the same neglected...
Read moreAs some of the reviews stated, the chateau (as of our visit in October, 2019) needs work. It is a huge place and its restoration will require a lot of capital. So, it was not a luxury resort. Nor was it priced like a luxury resort. The setting is awesome (although, likewise, nor maintained by the Palais de Versailles staff). We were the only guests there at the time, and had a private tour by the owner. We loved it and I recommend it to a...
