We have just spent 6 nights at Camping des Allouettes and have had a really lovely time. The campsite is very well kept and the facilities are very clean with lovely roomy shower cubicles and plentiful hot water. The pitches are extremely generous in size… I’m sure you could get 2 caravans on some! As you sit outside you are engulfed in birdsong and buzzing. It’s idyllic. There is also a pool and a children’s play area. There are walks in the forest, including one to the nearest little town, Cognac La Foret, which has 2 lakes…one with picnic benches and one with a sandy beach. You are only about half an hours drive from Limoges and there are big supermarkets about 15 minutes away in St Junien. The owners of the site are extremely welcoming and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. You are able to order bread and pastries at reception for the next day. There is a restaurant onsite which we ate at twice. The owners son helps here and he is a really lovely, polite young man…a credit to his parents. The first night we had pizzas and we both agreed that they were the nicest pizzas that we have had for many a year. I can thoroughly recommend the Savayade! The second time we visited it was burger night. The menu was a variety of beef burgers which came with chips and some salad. You could tell as soon as you tucked in that the burgers were homemade. They were sooo delicious. Excellent value too…cheese burger, bacon and cheese burger, 2 glasses of wine and 1 coffee with mini desserts - £39! I would definitely recommend Camping des Allouettes to anyone looking for a really good site for a visit to...
Read moreWe rented a cabin for 2 nights to visit Oradour sur Glane. The site is located just outside a little village Cognac La Foret and there is pretty much nothing to do. They do have a little pool on site. The grounds are nice and surrounded by bush, and there is a little bathing lake 10 minute walk away in town. Big shopping centre is in Saint Junien, ca. 20 minute drive. The cabin was quite small, no linen supplied or available for hire, so bring your own. No dishwasher liquid, towels or soap supplied either or a TV, all staples in Australia where we are from. There is a microwave and a gas cooktop. Suggest for people who are travelling and who are not able to bring linen and towels/soap to at least hire them out. WiFi is not free and...
Read moreOn arriving at this site we were met by the very friendly owner. He showed us around the campsite and told us to choose a pitch. The pitches are enormous and level. The heated amienaties are new and spotless. The water is hot for showers and washing up. The bar has a good range of drinks, with DVDs and books to borrow. The owners run the bar and restaurant where the food is very good at a reasonable price. The swimming pool looked great but was being repaired so We could not use it. We stayed here for a week and really enjoyed our stay. The owners are really friendly and helpful. The campsite is extremely clean and environmentally friendly. We would most definitely recommend this campsite and we...
