Liked: The location was pretty, we had a pitch next to the river bank. There was a play area for the kids and table tennis to keep them entertained. Free high speed WiFi outside the reception. A little truck come selling lots of little bits on the Sunday afternoon which was lovely. There was use of a spa facility (we didn't use it). There was a small village near by, and supermarkets within a 10 minutes drive.
Disliked: There are lots of facilities, however they are poorly maintained. One morning every toilet was blocked and the water had risen to the seat on them, the toilets are more of a outdoor shed style and the doors are hard to close/gaps around them. The showers looked nice, but flooded the whole floor meaning your shoes and bag etc got soaked, when lifting the trap on the drain it was full of hair and hadn't been cleaned in a long time (this wasn't limited to one shower they all flooded and floor cleaning equipment was left there for you to clear the flooding when you was done). The site was a bit chaotic, when we arrived we were walked to 2 pitches (we camped with family) and told those two where ours, and another couple had the end one and were setting up their campervan. I asked again to clarify and the guy said yes 3 pitches those 2 are yours. We all set up and that evening around 8pm after the reception was closed, another motorhome turned up and said they had been given one of the pitches also and had just been out for the day so we had to squeeze a 4th motorhome in meaning everyone was on top of each other.
We used the washing machine on the first day, and I kept thinking the washing smelt a little funny. My mum washed out a couple of tops (unworn since washing)on day 4 in her sink in the motorhome as the said they also smelt funny and she said the water was brown when they had been washed, so I'm not sure the washing machine has been cleaned or the water source or...
Read moreThis site has massive potential but for me my stay was a little strange. I booked it on the strength of their website but I was disappointed with the reality of the site. There are a number of permanent or semi permanent static caravans or mobile homes which have been extended by their owners to varying degrees of aesthetic design!
Our first night resulted in other youths who were staying there partying loudly until 2am. Not the best start. Reception was closed but did have a note saying pick a pitch and we can sort it out tomorrow. However, the reception was also closed all of the following day. We arrived for a weekend stop but had paid in advance so this wasn't actually an issue.
The shower block has clearly been refurbished with good quality fittings and there was always hot water. The toilets are outside cubicles more like out house toilets and locked with a gate bolt inside. This resulted in other guests pulling the doors as there was no indication that the toilets were occupied. Again not a biggie but a bit rustic. The local town was lovely and they had a vintage day on whilst we were there which was lovely.
Overall, the site was very clean and tidy and it has massive potential and the owners are clearly investing in the place. However, the mix of permanent residents looking over at you regularly as was our experience with one particular resident, was off putting and it's not a site I would revisit or recommend, especially if you were a family with young children.
Such a shame as their website painted such a great picture that after setting up our tent and having the neighbour watching us making us feel so uncomfortable, I actually felt that I set up on the wrong site as it was just so different. Oh well the weather was great and thankfully, we were only there...
Read moreNot somewhere I would recommend. It’s a fairly small camp site, but we weren’t given a map to the pitches, just told they were down the lane. The facilities are either in the process of being renovated or had been renovated. Considering there is a lot of space, the toilet cubicles are very small and they need to sort their doors out. There are large gaps down the side and it is clear to see in. Also no hooks which is really inconvenient. The showers were ok. A bit outdated again only one hook and no clean surface to put clothes or towels etc. There was no squeegee provided so unable to clean down afterwards. The facilities were clean but very basic. The river, the selling point for this site, was really disappointing. You can only walk the length of the campsite as neighbouring properties have closed off the river banks and there are only a couple of pitches overlooking the river. Our worst issue for this night away was other guests. There are apartments available to be rented. In one which we were really close to, was a large dog that kept barking all through the night. Worse than that, some of the guests had an argument. Shouting and swearing at 3am! Terrible service from the site as these people should have been removed or at the very least told to keep quiet. Overall, this site is alright if you’re staying for one night and not spending much time there. No good for a family holiday or any longer. Would...
