A great campsite located next to the beach in a quiet area. Perfect for families and people looking for a relaxing location away from the busy tourist areas. The pitches and cabins can be booked by the day, which is great if you are touring around. There isn’t much 4G or 3G, and there aren’t any shops nearby, but maybe that is a good thing! However, there is a nice creperie/cafe 5 minutes away. Plus a boulanger van comes to the campsite at 09h00 so you can get your baguette and croissants (ask for a ‘tradition’ to get the nicer style baguette). We stayed in one of the little cabins, which is fine for a couple and two other people. The double bed was surprisingly comfortable! There isn’t much information on the campsite website so for your info... There is a fridge (no freezer compartment) and hob with two hot plates, but no microwave. There was cutlery for 4 people, 3 sauce pans, two frying pans, a sharp knife and some other utensils, but no can opener. There is a coffee machine, but if you want boiling water for tea you’ll have to use a pan. The shower was hot and powerful. And there is a heater in the kitchen area. Outside there is a front porch/decking area with a table a 4 chairs. The beach directly in front is fairly large and even in high season not too busy. The beach to the right is above the high tide mark and the sand is glorious and golden. We body-boarded a couple if days, and swam on the calm days. A couple of anglers said the fishing was quite good from the rocks by the beach and we saw a few people catch some flat fish. We would certainly return to this campsite and we highly recommend you stop over for a couple of days if you are touring...
Read moreThis municipal (Council-run) campsite in Erquy, N coast of Brittany, W of St Malo, is a dream! It's the best campsite I have ever stayed on (and I have stayed on a lot!) - the toilet block is so spotlessly clean, spacious, free electricity socket points (people would leave their phones on charge); beautiful location right on the beach (just a dirt track between the site and sand dunes & beach) which the other campsite in Erquy does not have; free shuttle bus to the weekly market in Erquy; essentials like milk, bread and drinks sold on site. Very friendly staff. You can email them to enquire about booking a pitch and to book it (I did do it in French which may help of course). The beach is an enormous stretch of sand, not just Plage St Michel but across a shallow river, hardly there at low tide so easy to walk across, is the long stretch of Sables d'Or. Opposite the campsite is a little chapel to St Michel reached by a little causeway at low tide which is worth visiting and, while there, you can pick mussels off the rocks to eat. Look out for the Lizard Orchid in the sand dunes. And at nearby Fort-la-Latte, we saw a majestic sparkly Emerald Lizard (8-10 inches long) - real lizard! Erquy is a delightful maritime town and the market is excellent. Enjoy! I can't wait to...
Read moreVery average. Sites very close together. When we were there it was almost full and it felt like a festival campsite. From our small van we were surrounded every time we opened our door we were looking on top of at least 4 othere camps. Toilets and showers were not super clean. And a note of caution the toilets are locked at night, if you happen to be caugh short in the middle of the night you will be in trouble. On the plus side its close to a large...
