Hôtel restaurant Le Plomb du Cantal — Hotel in Saint-Flour

The hotel is a small, country style hotel. The rooms are a really good size and our shower room was excellent. We stayed for 3 nights at the end of September and the hotel was quite quiet, most of the guests were there to enjoy the excellent walking around the area. The hosts were going on a short holiday themselves so this contributed to the quietness. We dined in the hotel all 3 nights, there is a set menu but the food on offer was excellent and all home made, we enjoyed every dinner. The area is stunningly beautiful and, in the winter, skiing is only 5 minutes away by car from the hotel. Only stayed here for one night but can really recommend this hotel. First impressions count and a very warm welcome and help with bringing our luggage to the room was a good first impression. The room was nice and airy with a lovely little balcony. The set menu in the evening featuring local produce was excellent, and the wine and regional beer went down well too. You know you are in for a treat when you sense that certain French seriousness about the dining room guests - quiet, concentrated, expectant. We were recommended the restaurant of this small hotel by the owner of our chambre d'hote a few miles away and we had an impressively good meal there - local specialities imaginatively re-created.
