INN OF THE MOUNTAIN PELEE — Hotel in Saint-Pierre

The property was beautiful, all with very green grass and the brightly-painted bungalows. In the inside, these look like a mini castle. High ceiling and arched lumber, two bedrooms, a shower room, a toilet room and the kitchen corner. Right at the base of the Montagne Pelee, with great views. Only 4 min away from the trailhead of Aileron hiking trail. Breakfast is a French continental type of breakfast, with warm chocolatines, croissants and breads, and other basics (see picture). We arrived at noon and our bungalow was about to be ready and we moved in 15 min later. The beds were comfortable. Some pillow cases & linens smelled people and we think it may be sweat from inside the pillows or beds that come out. The main two down sides to the bungalow are: (1) the shower did not have any doors or curtains so the whole small bathroom was swamped and slick (tiles on the floor). The bath towel was changed everyday. (2) The location of the property is high in the mountain and so, often is in the clouds, ie. very humid. Clothes do not even dry in 24 hrs. That said, the humidity in the high ceiling of the bungalow shows lots of mold spots. It seems concerning. We are pretty healthy and did not get any health problems from it (see pictures), but still looks concerning. The kitchen has the basics, although the dish soap is watered down, and could be improved with shelving overhead to maximize counter space for cooking, but I guess they want you to eat at the restaurant. We tried the restaurant once, for dinner, and it was okay. Would recommend it for 2-3 days needed to maximize your chances of clear weather to hike the volcano. Upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised to know that the "rooms" were in fact individual little cottages (bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and covered terrace). As it was not very busy we were given the choice, so we chose one right at the bottom of the property with a lovely view. ||The proximity to the Montagne Pelée is impressive and you can watch it all the time (and note the changes in weather). We also were able to climb this magnificient volcano on our first day (we were very lucky with the weather, as the next day it was covered in mist). ||We stayed for 3 nights (to give us more chance for the hiking, but also to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere) and were looked after very well by the charming couple who run the hotel.||On our first evening we had a lovely (menu) dinner in the restaurant and for the Sunday evening (as they were closed and we were the only guests) we suggested they make us something that we heated in our microwave (the Colombo we asked for was delicious and we received two kinds (porc & goat), as were the vegetables and lovely tart for pudding), on the third evening we just had a picnic.||And breakfast served in the restaurant (included in the price I think) was good and ample;||The town or Morne Rouge is nice and has everything you need, including the interesting "Maison du Volcan" where we saw an hour long video about the history of this and other volcanoes in the Caribbean and St Pierre and its lovely coast...

We actually did not stay overnight there, but had the most amazing lunch ever! We were on an Excursion off the cruise ship, and our tour guide took us up there. At first we were a bit hesitant based on some reviews, but people are crazy if they say the food is not good here.

We tried pretty much every dish on their menu that day, and everything was very tasty and so fresh! Our favorite dishes had to be the Octopus casserole, the best I've ever had anywhere in the World, and the calf pork knuckle.

The desserts were also to die for, and the complimentary rum tasting a great addition! The views all around were also spectacular and breathtaking, and the staff truly did a fantastic job. Merci beaucoup to Chantale and Jean-Hugues for receiving us with open arms and making us feel...
