i join all others - this is a wonderful unique place which is difficult to find and drive to- the last segment is not for inexperienced drivers as the road is too steep. Essentially, you stay in a stand alone place in the middle of the jungle. the B&B is surrounded by lush greenery and it has a wonderful view all around. We stayed in the suite and had a great experience - we had our own patio, with a nice bathtub - with the view of the surrounding forest. the place is very colorful - the owner did a good job of making otherwise fairly ok place to something quite unique - even though it is on the rustic side. our room was spacious with shower and toilet separated. you must realize that you are in the middle of the nowhere - there are no restaurants or shops near by. we had dinners at the B&B and while not a gourmand experience, it was good and reasonable for Martinique ( around 20 euro a main dish). a car is a must and you are around 20 min away from the near by town/beach. the owner, Stephanie, was great, she gave us lots of tips where to go - all the tips were excellent - you can see the waterfall/good 45 min tracking ; the zoo is amazing and the beach next to it is very good. the property has a nice small pool with a view and it is very pleasant. we really enjoyed our time. on the downside, please be aware that you room will not be cleaned daily and i would also recommended to bring your own shampoo /gel ( we found some in the bathroom but it was not enough and not that great). alas, there is no fridge in the room, which would have made a difference. also while the bkrf is included, it is not much to write home about - there are local jams ( you can find it in local supermarkets), last day's toasted bread, good selection of coffee and tea and fresh juice - frankly, a toast with jam is a bit a passe so you may want to bring something to compliment it. Bottom line: great and unique place in the middle of the jungle, serene and lovely, you would need to drive everywhere ...
Read moreWow! What a secluded haven! Be sure and arrive here during the day, as the road in is 1.6 km of essentially one lane, steep and twisty. We didn't let that deter us from venturing out each day, or even in the evenings for dinner in St. Pierre (about 20 minutes drive). We did eat a number of times at the restaurant at the B&B (which gets very busy at lunch on weekends), and enjoyed all our meals. It was home cooked Creole with plenty of sides, all with delicious taste.||||We stayed in Zandoli room with a big terrace out front that was half covered, so we could sit outside even when it rained (which it does daily, and many times a day!) After all, you're in a rain forest. We loved the privacy and peace and quiet, and on the rare sunny times, I enjoyed the cool, clean pool. Everything was super clean, and the bed and pillows were comfortable. There was plenty of hot water and relatively strong pressure. Be aware that they have 5 cats and 1 dog, but they all stay away if you don't want to pet them. The WiFi is relatively fast, but only accessible from the common lounge area, so we were "frequent loungers".||||We were the only English speakers for the week we were here, but Beatrice tried very hard to communicate with us, as our French is minimal. We can highly recommend this accommodation, and would stay here again if...
Read moreOverall, this was the type of place that surprised and delighted us and we would definitely recommend. ||Le Relaise de la Maison Rousse sits on a small outcropping that juts out over a small river and is surrounded by rainforest. It's a very peaceful spot perfect for nature lovers. The sounds of the forest and river at night is soothing. A few Ylang Ylang trees were planted along the edge of the property, and provided a perfume like fragrance in the breeze. wherever you walked, you were surrounded by flowering plants. ||The popular hiking trail along the irrigation channel 'Canal de Beauregard' starts a short 2 minute walk away. Don't miss this hike if you stay. It is also reasonably close to the start of the most popular hiking route up Mount Pelee, about 30 minute drive.||The location is fairly remote so plan on having your meals at the restaurant on site. We found the food to be very good. ||We stayed in a private room that seemed to be one of the larger rooms, and was in very good condition, but we can't vouch for the other rooms. ||We have travelled extensively and this charming spot was a...
