A really lovely campsite. Popular with families with young children. Well located with lots of trees, though some sun gets through, so make your you bring additional good uv shade sails.
We stayed on the ‘nature pitchs’ near the river access (you can’t park your car next to your pitch on these pitches and you will need a very very long hook up leads ( think long, then double it!) - which is more open and requires more shade sails, but is lovely - and away from the pools/cafe so nice and relaxed. Pretty quiet.
The cafe/restaurant is good but book ahead for evening dining - it’s busy (we were there in August) - but it’s not too expensive. The shop is small but has had bread you can pre-order via their good app but no grocery’s to buy particularly.
Small kids play park is small and unshaded. The pool is great as are the slides - but it gets busy, very busy, in the afternoons. There is not enough sun beds (or parasols) for the amount of parents. There is a lifeguard - albeit he’s got a lot to watch over for one person.
The river access is great, albeit a bit small and there is only a tiny spot to swim in. The rest of the river is paddling to your knees (I guess this may be different on wetter years, if they come back).
Staff are great and friendly. Facilities are good and clean.
To conclude, I like the site, but the pool area is just too small for the amount of August persons (when it’s a hot summer) - which means there is literally nowhere to sit - so I don’t think I’d recommend the site in...
Read moreMdeP is certainly the best campsite in France, for a fun filled french holiday. The location of the site is beautiful with mature trees and shrubs, and beautifully kept pitches. The facilities are excellent and incredibly clean and well maintained. Over the 20+ years we have been coming as a family with 2 boys, and now they are grown up, they still have fond memories of the campsite, and we continue to visit as we adore the site so much. The new owners Sebastian, Xavier and their families, have made incredible improvements including investing in new mobile homes and ‘Glamping’ safari tents. The new seating area and play area around the bar/restaurant and pool area, continue to add to the already fabulous facilities. The campsite is immaculate, trees shrubs pruned and grass cut. Sitting by the river Ceou on a warm day, or as the sun sets, gives another dimension to the site, of peace and tranquility. There are lovely walks and cycle rides around the campsite, and the area offers an abundance of sites and history to occupy your stay, including the Dordogne river, which is marvellous canoeing down taking in the breathtaking views of this region . For us the site is perfect, and safe for families with younger children. This amazing site will continue to keep us coming back for years to come. We cannot praise it enough, and with all the impressive changes, we wholeheartedly recommend a visit. You will not be...
Read moreWe were really looking forward to our stay here, especially after reading so many positive reviews. And to be fair: most of those points are true — the facilities are clean, the pool is nice, the restaurant is good, and the general atmosphere is friendly.
But none of that matters when you can’t sleep. We stayed in a rental tent (N11), located right next to the restaurant, the swimming pool, and a toilet block. While the campsite officially has “quiet hours” between 23:00 and 07:00, those were ignored every single night.
We slept with earplugs every night, but even with those, the noise was constant and disruptive. I had to get out of bed every single night to ask groups of young people near the toilet block to keep it down or move elsewhere. Then, usually before 07:00, the noise would start again with cleaning activity or people talking loudly on their way to the toilets.
We understand this is a campsite and you can’t expect silence — but this level of noise, every night, was far beyond what’s reasonable. After five nights of broken sleep, we were so exhausted that we cut our holiday short and left early just to get some rest elsewhere.
So yes, the other positive reviews are largely accurate. But without proper sleep, it’s simply not a proper vacation. Unless you’re a very heavy sleeper or plan to stay up all night yourself, we strongly recommend avoiding the tents near the...
