I have never written a bad review but our stay at Bonheur Dans Note Pre - as part of a re union around the Rugby World Cup to take in some matches with family and friends after a close family bereavement was so awful I decided to note the experience. I ended up paying over 3,000 Euros for 3 nights for 2 people and upon moving out of this gite the promised written offer of a - I quote “full refund for unused nights” (12 in total) was refused by the owners. From our arrival when the owners representative didn’t bother to show up to meet us as agreed and left us in the 35C heat for nearly two hours before the owners bothered to email us with the location of the keys, to no welcome pack as promised, broken appliances (TV and Fridge) beds not made up and being treated with general disdain and as a nuisance by the owners.
My wife was treated with aggression and verbally attacked by the owners representative AND the owners via the telephone due to the fact we had the temerity to complain about the poor quality of the product and broken appliances. As I was away in Bordeaux that day watching the Ireland rugby match when 3 people attended the gite on the day after we arrived (a Saturday) and began very aggressively accusing my wife of breaking the TV (with the owners also haranguing my wife at the end of a ‘phone). The underlying message was if we had broken it we would have to pay 100 euros to have it retuned/repaired. We couldn’t even watch the opening France/NZ match on the Friday we arrived as their TV did not work. Their aggressive and bullying manner was despicable - more so as my wife was alone on the Saturday.
Suffice to say if you want a grubby tatty 4 bedroom gite and a studio which is poorly furnished and having had little spent on it in the last ten years then Montfort and Milandes are the ones for you. If you want three of the bedrooms to be below the gite in a damp cave which needed a dehumidifier, with some bedrooms leading off one of the other bedrooms (totally unsuitable for adults), if you want to overlook a grubby communal courtyard with no private space, if you want your rear view from the closed shutters to be that of the back of a broken down breeze block barn six feet away, if you want your pool experience to be some 300 metres away in a field around the back of 3 other buildings, if you want to stroll to the pool with an non iced drink as there is no freezer compartment in the aged refrigerator then Montfort and Milandes are the ones for you. If you like passive aggressive notes throughout the gite telling you what fines you will be liable for if you break anything this place will be right up your street.
Even more amazingly we drove past the gite a couple of days after moving out and my wife spoke to some people in the courtyard who confirmed they were staying in the exact property we had rented. Double dipping is what this is called !!!
To be honest we would have soldiered on with the lousy accommodation were it not for the fact that we were treated in so disgusting and appalling manner by the owners and their representative. Our instincts were proven correct as they deliberately misled us over their proposed refund. So don’t be fooled by the nice pool and garden photos on their literature as they will likely be out of...
Read moreMe, my husband, our 3 year old daughter, our 10 month old son and our dog (big breed-husky) stayed at Castlenaud for a long stay accommodation during May. our parents came to visit and so did some other members of our family with their children. The Gitê was perfect for us, it’s absolutely beautiful and the grounds are immaculate. I read a response to a review that Michele and Jean-Paul put their heart into maintaining the property, & that they certainly do! The beds were all made up, a cot for the baby provided, clean bathroom with a shower and bath, towels and the kitchen is fully equipped. I would just say that the washing machine is in a separate room which is a communal space so you need to walk through the courtyard or via the back entrance, it’s well equipped and clean - I didn’t mind this at all and quite enjoyed my little walks to get my washing. The garden is enclosed but not secure, this was fine for us as our dog loved to roam around the fields behind the property and return looking pretty happy with himself. walking him up through the forest in the morning was so lovely and peaceful, plenty of deer and wildlife surrounding. The swimming pool is very well maintained and clean, my daughter and her cousins loved loved loved the pool, & views are stunning. The owners are always on hand and very helpful, Michele cooked for us one night and it was lovely! Location wise, it’s not far from sarlat, and there is a shop, bakery etc within a 5-10 min drive. I’d have loved to have stayed longer, & We would love to stay again...
