What a magnificent place to stay. Set in a rural quiet countryside hamlet, it's very peaceful. The owners (Ian and Sara) are just so welcoming and lovely people.
Great amenities too, we had a family room, with an ensuite shower. Additionally we had access to a community kitchen and play area with toys galore. So kids could play while you prep a lunch or evening meal. There are a few places to go and eat your meal onsite, either on the terrace or in a small dining area. If you were inclined there is plenty of lawn to sit and have a picnic too. There is self catering accommodation too, which we were lucky enough to peak inside, they have their own kitchens, living room area, and bedrooms. With an enclosed covered outdoor area too.
There is plenty for the kids to do more generally, swings, trampoline, swing ball set, a make shift goal and a football, petanque set and a really lovely swimming pool. And rabbits and chickens to see too. There is an equestrian centre in walking distance where young kids can take a half hour trek on a pony etc.
Even though the place was almost fully booked it never felt crowded at all.
Breakfasts were excellent and included in the rooms price (but believe it's extra if you stay in the self catering accommodation). You could choose what you wanted on the form the night before. Croissant, Pain au Chocolate, cheeses and ham, breads, museli, yogurt etc.
Also, there is lots to see around this area of France, lots of significant prehistoric sites (Lascaux caves) and medieval towns (Sarlat). Closet town with a supermarket is St Cyprien (about a 10-15 min drive)
This is a family run place, I don't think it's a deservice to say that it's not super sharp high end fixtures and fittings etc. It's rustic, charming and clearly the owners have poured love into it. 100% recommended and we'll likely be going back next summer.
As an aside, we were very poorly organised on car hire, we flew to Bergerac which is a little under an hour's drive away. Sort your hire car early, as it's basically essential given how rural it is round there. Taxis are hard to come by and quite expensive. We had to get a taxi to the accommodation and then return to the airport to pick up a hire car a couple of days later. Just make sure you book...
Read moreWe recently had a truly wonderful stay at Le Chevrefeuille.
We knew we would be arriving late on the first night so requested a "ready meal" on arrival which was a delicious quiche, with little lemon possetts and a bottle of red wine, absolutely worth the additional money to avoid trying to find somewhere to eat with two tired children. Sara greeted us very warmly and have us a quick but excellent tour, we were given the impression nothing was too much.
The next morning we'd arranged breakfast as well before we did a supermarket shop. The breakfast was lovely and we had fruit, croissants, Madelines, and cereal, all delicious.
The location of Le Chevrefeuille is perfect. It feels like you are in rural France but is mostly 10-20 minutes away from the nearest towns and tourist hot spots/ attractions. We went to St Cyprien supermarket which was well stocked and we managed to get all our shopping (except fresh milk!) For the week. During our stay we visited Beynac, the aquarium at Le Buge, and the Gouffre De Proumessac, all worth a visit if you have little people!
The accommodation itself was perfect for our family of two parents, a 16 month old, 3.5 year old and two grandparents! Sara and Ian have lots of baby equipment and we borrowed a stair gate, a bed guard and a high chair which were helpful. The accommodation was clean and well equipped. The animals were a lovely bonus and my 16 month old LOVED seeing the bunnies every morning out of our window, and the chickens and the horses next door!
The swimming pool was great (if a little chilly for me! My children didn't mind though!) And I really loved that it wasn't deep. At 5ft3 I could happily stand with my head and shoulders above the water throughout the pool. It made it feel safer having little ones about the pool, should they have fell in!
We visited just as the weather changed so there was a fair amount of rain, so we utilised the playroom which is such an excellent addition/ resource. We were often in there first thing whilst everyone else tidied up from breakfast, my children enjoyed the novelty of new toys!
All in all a wonderful stay, I would thoroughly recommend to anyone, but particularly with people with...
Read moreMy family of four (myself, my husband, 7 year old daughter, 9 year old son) stayed here for a week in early June. After 5 days of touristy busy-ness in Paris, this property was an absolute gem. The property and surroundings are absolutely gorgeous, and the children loved being able to explore and wander about unsupervised. Accommodations were comfortable, the daily breakfast was lovely, Sara was an incredible host, and we thoroughly enjoyed the oven-ready meal and wine we ordered on the first day of our arrival. We stayed in one of the self-catering apartments, and if I had it to do over again, we would have stayed longer here and less time in Paris. With horses, guinea pigs, dogs and otehr families with children nearby, the kids were delighted. The highlight of our 10-day trip to France was the half-day course at the cooking school taught by Ian. All four of us raved about what a great time it was, and all of the dishes were delicious and a joy to make - I captured some family photos that we will treasure for years to come. Great atmosphere, great hosts, we can't wait to plan another trip. Thank you...
