An unbelievable hidden gem! I wanted to finish our French vacation with a bang on our long drive from the Alps to Cherbourg, and boy was this a bang. ||Set in beautiful countryside, inside a tree lined driveway appears this amazing little Chateau, steeped in history. ||The rooms are rustic and exactly as you would expect. Comfortable, spotlessly clean, great sleep accompanied with the charming creaky floors of a chateau. We had three rooms all at the front of the castle. The Duchess room even has the main balcony over the entry. ||The castle is step back in time yet with all mod cons. Every corner is history and our host Sebastien was more than happy to give us a tour. ||Sebastian is a natural 5 star hospitality host. He naturally asks what you need when he sees you and really made the stay unforgettable. That can't be learned its instinctive. Breakfast was like a royal buffet in the drawing room with Sebastien going above and beyond. ||The grounds are amazing to explore, orchards, ancient trees, ponys and chickens clucking around and the brand new swimming pool kept our girls occupied for hours on end. ||The castle is 5 min to a town with plenty of restaurants and supermarkets, and only 3.5 hrs to cherbourg it is the ideal rustic luxurious break before home. ||Merci for an amazing stay, hope to come...
Read moreAfter a long journey from the UK, driving through the gates into the chateau and seeing it for the first time lit up in the early evening was almost a view from a fairytale of only our car had been a horse and carriage. Then meeting our host who showed us into her house and our accommodation for the next four nights did not lessen the experience as the inside is in keeping with the outside.||We stayed in the master bedroom looking out over the driveway which was large and comfortable with a double bed as well as a single bed for our daughter. There was also a desk and chair, wardrobe and chest of draws. The ensuite bathroom was up a small step.||Breakfast in the morning ws in the most incredible room with an original painted beam ceiling and because it was February and cold there was an open fire to warm us. Fresh breads and fruit were provided every day and I particularly liked the baked apples and honey that was produced at the chateau.||If we ever have the opportunity to return we would stay here again...
Read moreWhat an incredible find, 10 minutes from the Loire at Saumur and close to so many famous chateaux of the Loire. It's a beautiful building, sensitively restored to retain the feel of an old chateau but made comfortable, and surrounded by a moat. What really sets it apart is the warmth of the welcome from the owners, Marite Champenois and her sister, who do everything possible to make your stay perfect. Breakfasts are varied, copious and of good quality, beds are comfortable, the wifi is reliable and there is a nice swimming pool. No TV in the rooms but for those desperate to sit in front of the box instead of enjoying the chateau life and the delights of the region, there is a TV in one of the two salons that are at guests' disposal. The hosts speak good English and we heard them also using some Spanish. A memorable stay - we...
