|Traveling between the South of France and the Netherlands by car, we found this very nice situated Chateau in Brain sur Allonnes; Chateau de la Coutanciere|Communicating with the owners via e-mail and phone (or the normal booking sites) was easy, they speak besides French, also fluently English, German and Dutch, not so common for “ French Chateau’s”.|We made reservations and arrived on a sunny (early) afternoon.|Plenty of (free) parking space, an entry from a Hollywood movie, a warm welcome by the owners, what else could you ask for?|We had two rooms, due to the fact that we were celebrating our 40st anniversary, we received the bridal suite, a spacious 3 room apartment on the first floor. Nice large windows overlooking the front field and trees in the back, a four-posted bed that fits perfectly in this setting and a huge brand-new bath room.|We asked if we could have lunch, “to bad”, no such service. But practical as they are, you can drive to the local Carrefour Express, get your baguette, your cheese etc. and use their garden as pick-nick place and the Chateau will gladly provide the wine. We enjoyed a nice bottle Sancerre (Chateau de Thauvenay, 2021) in the shade, close to the (heated) pool, an excellent place to relax and enjoy the surrounding nature.||In the evening we made reservations for dinner, the weather was as such that we could dine outside. A beautiful setting, a 4 course dinner with local products, nice wines and the service and attention you normally receive in a Michelin star restaurant, but in a complete different setting. We stayed outside after midnight, a wonderful dinner, something we will remember for a long time!||In the morning, waking up with the sound of birds, breakfast was served, you can choose your eggs (boiled, scrambled, over-easy, poached, you name it) and the bread was fresh and warm, obviously they served Croissants (you are in the middle of France!) and we enjoyed it again outside.||So to make a long story short, traveling by car, looking for a place between the UK and the South of France, or from the Northern Countries on-route to Spain or Portugal, this is a perfect place to stay the night, enjoy a perfect dinner and healthy breakfast and continue your journey.|We enjoyed it very much and will return for sure thanks to the service and attention received from Josien, Bert,...

Read moreWe chose this location to escape from the world for 3 days. It did not disappoint. The château has amazing rustic charm which is exactly what we wanted. It was clean , quiet and the pool was warm. Although there were a few other guests there, we felt like it was our own place. ||It’s run by a Dutch couple but their son John has now joined them and could not do enough for us. We were interested in the history of the chateau so we had a full tour , including the old wine cellars and the old stables which are not normally open to guests. ||Sadly due to Covid and staffing issues , they are not serving dinner for the time being but there are plenty of places to eat within 8 miles. ||I would highly recommend this location if you want to escape , or use it as a base to explore. ||It’s unique and rustic , not one of your everyday branded hotels. Loved it. You can also book the whole chateau if you contact them...
