Logis Hôtel Restaurant La Désirade — Hotel in Tournon-sur-Rhône

Lovely, airy house set in a small vineyard, with plenty of parking on a gravelled and grass space. Interior walls covered in brightly-coloured fabric.||||Large, very quiet room (we were in Bleu), overlooking the vineyard (and a massive ginger cat), with a very small but perfectly formed shower-room (hairdryer and some basic toiletries). Bed was on a downward slope to the head-end. The room would benefit from a bottle / carafe of drinking water - complimentary or otherwise, just nice to have the choice.||||Breakfast - orange juice (not freshly squeezed), good coffee and slightly plastic croissants (in France? Really!). A big bowl of cherries was presented on the Sunday (the local trees are groaning with them in May / June), which was a pleasure.||||Biggest let-down was the evening meal on the first of our two nights - would describe it as catering to what non-French visitors would expect French food to be. Plenty of it, but somewhat heavy and uninspired, served in a nice room, but with that kind of quiet whispery atmosphere where no-one really wants to be overheard. Menus at 19€ or 24€ for three or four courses - so very reasonable.||||Very limited wine list (maybe 8-10 wines), disappointing for one of the world's greatest wine-growing areas. Located in an old country house with a nice walled-in garden, gravel driveway and very nice swimming pool, this is the perfect stop-over for 1-2 nights, if you are travelling the countryside. The service is very friendly, efficient and – more importantly – very uncomplicated. And this is important when travelling with kids and there were more kids than adults when we stayed. The hotel is run by a family and this renders it a very cozy place to stay. Now, folks, this is a two star hotel with limited manpower, so do not expect a huge wine list or an extensive choice of food items. But what is on offer is good, down-to-earth country fare. Of course not high end French cuisine as was stated in other reviews, but we ate there twice and were satisfied. Breakfast is taken in two rooms downstairs; fresh baguette, orange juice, coffee/chocolate/tea, etc. ||We had the family suite ‘Rose/Jaune’, which consists of two double bedrooms connected with a bathroom. Arriving after a long drive we were dismayed to find a blackboard propped against the door of the hotel. It told us (in misspelt French) that the restaurant was closed for the owners' holiday. No mention of this important information was on the hotel's web site or on Logi's but it explains why our email requesting a meal went unanswered. So we had to drive quite a distance to find somewhere to eat.||||I hope the owners had a good holiday, their thoughtlessness got ours off to a poor start.||||Our bedroom was comfortable but the bathroom seemed to have been designed to look good rather than function well.
