DO NOT RISK YOUR HOLIDAY MEMORIES BEING FOREVER TAINTED BY BOOKING HERE. The manager/owner is a pompous and dishonest sort that has somehow convinced himself that his guests ought to be grateful for the privilege of booking a room at this musty and rundown Chateau. That's fine and in the end we are all entitled to our opinions and attitudes, but I think reasonable people will draw the line between what is acceptable and what is just blatantly wrong when you realise that the RESERVATIONS you make with this establishment are not worth the paper they are written on (and then cancelled out from). The manager/owner wasn't even ashamed of his attempted deceit and tried to gaslight us into believing that we had somehow failed to confirm our reservation, while in reality he had merely let out the room we had booked with him many months in advance (from the other side of the world in Japan). Discussion with the other party led my wife and I to believe that he had let our room the Louis suite to somebody else for more money or to assuage some dissatisfaction or complaint. Having stayed at several chateaus on the Loire during our trip I can attest to the fact that a well cared for and maintained establishment can be authentic without being rundown or musty smelling. The furniture was mixed period and smelled as if it had been rained on and then brought in to dry. All this might be forgiven as being "part of the authentic castle experience" but seriously the toilets wouldn't flush and the shower was blocked up for goodness sake! Hello? are there no plumbers in Vouvray? PICK ANOTHER CHATEAU, ANY OTHER CHATEAU. THIS PLACE IS NOT WORTH THE AGGRAVATION YOU ARE LIKELY TO BE EXPOSED TO OR THE SOUR TASTE THAT WILL FILL YOUR MOUTH WHEN YOU THINK BACK TO YOUR VACATION...
Read moreMy sister and I booked 1 night to stay in a real chateau in France and the Chateau de Jallanges was everything we could have hoped for!! ||1. The castle is a restored 15th century masterpiece, which has been lovingly restored by its wonderful and creative owner Stephane. The interior livings rooms and 6 of the bedrooms feel like walking into a late medieval /renaissance home! If you want to stay in something with original antique furniture and fittings like Cheverny, we recommend this place! ||2. The gardens are a delightful mix of traditional planting (the roses in May were amazing) and modern and colourful sculpture). Beautiful for an evening walk.||3. The service is 5 star. Stephane will go out of his way to make sure your stay is magical. His attention to detail is wonderful and you must order the breakfast!! It was a feast delivered to our room, so we sat feeling like princesses with our 4 poster bed and fresh pastries and embroidered robes. ||4. The pool and hot tub/hammam experience. We recommend you pay the extra to try the steam hammam with its colourful leds! It was such a trippy experience in a restored 11th century underground wine cellar. ||5. Proximity - you are 20 min from Amboise castle and 15 min from Tours. It is extremely well situated while still feeling like an isolated countryside escape. ||Overall we had a glorious, escapist stay and will be recommending to our friends and families to prioritise this special treat and service if they are visiting the...
Read moreWe had an incredible stay at Chateau de Jallanges! If you want to feel a bit royal and stay in a 15th century castle then this is the place. The property is spectacularly maintained and the investment (time, sweat and money) by the owner Stephane is evident everywhere. As a family of 6 there are not many family-friendly hotels we have come across in France or even Europe that can accommodate 2 adults and 4 children but Jallanges has an amazing family suite with three separate rooms each for two people. Honestly the space we had was larger than some apartments we lived in in Manhattan. Everything was amazing from the house keeping and cleanliness to the breakfast buffet. They even had kid friendly activities - a play mobile exhibition and bouncy castle outside. Stephane was a gracious and friendly host - how often do you see the owner also serving breakfast? He clearly loves the property and has devoted his life to making it perfect. Oh, and as a bonus - how about a heated pool in an 11th century wine cellar? This place is incredible. We only stayed stayed two nights but everyone in our group wished we could have spent the week there. If you are thinking about staying here don’t hesitate. You will remember it for the rest...
