This B&B is a few miles outside of Monnaie (which, itself, is some miles from anywhere else). The last roads are barely wide enough for two cars (which is not a problem) and wind through farm fields to what used to be a working farmstead. (The only neighbor may still be farming.) The location is idyllic and there is not a single sound to disrupt the peace and quiet.||||Pascal has a background in Interior Decoration and has applied it with wonderful results. Everything about Maucartier is exquisitely done. There are only three rooms in the main building - not big - but nicely turned out and equipped. Our bathroom was thoroughly modern. We didn’t hear a sound from any other guests. The fourth “room” is a two-story suite with kitchen and two bedrooms in an adjacent building. There are two bedrooms - but only one bath (without a shower).||||Pascal is also an excellent breakfast chef! Our breakfasts were - beyond any doubt - the best we’ve ever eaten at a B&B. Excellent coffee, yogurt, fresh fruit, baguette, orange juice and another treat - crepe, cake, etc. - all included with the room. Optionally, one can add a soft-boiled egg, omelette or granola at small additional charge. (The yogurt and a small piece of chocolate are “branded” with the Maucartier “M”.)||||The grounds/gardens surrounding the buildings are finely manicured and maintained. Maucartier is apparently on a list for Garden Tours. It was a treat to walk around, sit on a bench, or visit the menagerie. There are chickens and geese by the dozens, a couple of turkeys (one tom seemingly constantly on the make) and many dozens (maybe hundreds) of guinea pigs!!||||The next time we get anywhere NEAR Maucartier, we...
Read moreWhile looking for an overnight stay in a true French house we came across the Manoir Maucartier and what a delight.|We were welcomed by Pascal the owner who gave us the warmest welcome to this amazing house. It is set out in the country and not that far the motorway. We asked if we could have dinner and he obliged with a one of the best meals we have had in our 4 month stay in Europe. Breakfast was also a delight, everything was perfect and prepared with passion.|Although there are pets in the house our small dog was made very welcome.|We will certainly try to stay here again on our next trip but can imagine we will need to book well in advance, for a truely French experience it is a must go place. Huge thanks...
Read moreLe Manoir is buried deep in the countryside but it is elegance on a personal scale, personified. The property has been beautifully restored. Our room was gorgeous with a period feel but all mod-cons. We were offered dinner which we accepted. Dinner and breakfast was served in a grand (but not impersonal) dining room. Our host, Pascal served a beautiful meal made with fresh ingredients. In the company of another couple (Belgian) we dined by flickering candle-light accompanied by quiet background music. The food and ambiance were amazing. Breakfast the next day was also fresh, fresh, food including freshly baked croissants (Pascal is a pastry-cook) This stay was one of the highlights of our two weeks of...
