We've been on a motorcycle trip from Bilbao back to Baden-Baden and it had been raining since Bordeaux. Short of Egletons, we've looked, via booking.com, for a Hotel with Restaurant and with Rooms with breakfast and Parking lots for the motorcycles. We wanted to change wet clothes, eat, maybe have a drink at the bar, sleep and continue the next day after breakfast. We booked 3 rooms at this Hotel Eden Lake, that promised at the booking.com platform everything that we had been looking for. Arriving there 1 hour later, the Hotel made a closed impression. We had to park the motorcycles somewhere and then walk a small pathway to the reception. Here everything made a closed impression too, a handwritten sign said "Restaurant closed"from 26.06. until 29.06..||As we already wanted to leave, a person appeared and asked, what we were doing here. When I said I had made a reservation, the person seems surprised and called his "Chef". After the call, he said, he could give us some rooms. We refused and said, that we had booked Rooms in a Hotel with Restaurant and breakfast. He said sorry, but the Restaurant was closed, this would show on google, the fact this would not show on Booking.com would not be their fault. If we wouldn't want the rooms, we should cancel with booking.com, which I directly did. I had been charged 45 Euros per Room as reservation fee, this money I got back. The room fee for the three rooms, 245 Euros, they kept, because I "had not cancelled 48 hours before". Booking. com offered no solution, besides offering a 25 - euros compensation.||Apart from that, the Hotel contents of the restaurant building at a lake, with the "reception", while the rooms itself seemed to be in little chalets, that, to our impression, had seen better days. Maybe the haven't been used...
Read morePlease note, I base this review as the resort stands at this moment - this place has loads of potential once it is all refurbished. Lovely quiet resort on the edge of a huge lake, with chalet blocks set amongst trees. The chalet we stayed in was quite small, with a tiny bathroom and no kitchen facilities, so only good for a short stay, but I believe there are larger ones. Chalet would benefit from extra plug sockets (it only had one), and a full-length mirror. There is a small town (Egletons) approximately 1 mile away, which has some cafés and restaurants. In most cases you can park your car outside your chalet, which is very useful. I understand the owners bought this resort a couple of years ago in a very run-down condition, they have worked wonders on it so far. The communal centre overlooks the lake and is a beautiful place for a quiet meal and drinks, although you would need to check on booking what is on offer. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I really hope that this resort is successful as it is...
