Gîte Rives et Terrasse (10 min de Verdun) — Hotel in Verdun

We as 2 couples visited in late August, the Gite is a delight, well equipped and set in a small village alongside the river Meuse. We were greeted by our lovely and welcoming host Anne who lives in the adjacent house. Anne showed us around the 2 bed 2 bathroom gite and explained how things worked, but its a home from home. Our weather was good and we ate and drank on the terrace always looking at the flowing river, there's a lower garden area with table and chairs and weber bbq, a transparent fence will secure anyone from the river, which flows to Rotterdam, 15 minutes walk takes you to the organic boulangerie across the river and canal to Bras sur Meuse, fresh croissants, filled baguettes and cakes. The gite is a good location to explore locally and beyond, Anne has great knowledge and can advise as well as a large collection of tour leaflets, Luxembourg 1.5 hours, Metz 1.25 hours, Verdun town and supermarkets are only 15 minutes. Verdun is noted for the siege and battle during WW1, there are many locations in the Meuse area, in Verdun the Underground citadel takes you on a carriage ride through the tunnels with visuals and commentary during the tour, 15 minutes from the gite is the Memorial de Verdun a modern 2 floor museum which provides a great insight explain in detail and visually the battle, as part of a multi ticket go to Fort de Douaumont, an underground Fort with tunnels and chambers and the pop up gun platforms, tickets are valid for 3 days. From the gite terrace we saw Grey Heron, kingfisher, Common Sandpipers, Cormorants, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Sparrows, Great Egret. 25.03.24 Tag 1 Traumhaft. Ein herrliches Haus mit toller Lage. Wir wurden sehr lieb und freundlich begrüßt (mit frischen Blumen und selbst gemachtem Saft) und wurden sehr gut eingewiesen. Die Wohnung hat sehr viel Platz und ein tolles Ambiente. Sehr liebevoll eingerichtet. Sie hat alles und sehr viel mehr von dem was man für 14 Tage braucht. Jedes Schlafzimmer hat sein eigenes Bad. Toll sauber. Die erst Nacht war bereits erholsam. Am besten ist aber die Lage direkt an der Maas. Update kommt am Ende.

30.03 1 Woche rum und viel gesehen und sehr gut erholt, Die Wohung liegt sehr gut. Es ist sehr viel im Umkreis von 1h Fahrzeit zu erkunden. Empfehlenswert: Natürlich Verdun, die Kathedrale von Verdun, die Zitadelle, die Innenstadt Zitadelle von Montmedy Abtei Orval, Belgien Die Monumente der Schlachtfelder Spaziergänge an der Maas. Par où commencer ? Le lieu ? Verdun, pour respecter le devoir de mémoire d'un grand-oncle décédé au ravin de la Fausse Côte le 26 Octobre 1916... Non... alors, le gîte et sa terrasse sur Meuse... ou alors Anne et Yannick les hôtes de ce gîte magnifique... Ou... Bref, un endroit super sympa pour visiter cette jolie région qui mérite bien plus que le côté "Histoire", même avec un grand H.
