Chateau de Clermont is a wonderful place and a great choice - especially if you are looking for something out of the ordinary. With the quality of any good 3 star hotel, it is so much more personal, welcoming and cosy than any hotel that I've stayed at and so much better quality than many B&B's that I've seen. The rooms are cozy, spacious and artistically decorated with finesse and fine taste, which gives each room a unique feel. Agnès, the lady of the manor, is a gifted painter and her paintings give the chateau a special touch. The whole place is family run (with one of the sons being the cook!) and the care and togetherness is felt throughout. The dinner (table d'hôte) is wonderful and tasty - with very fresh ingredients (some from the garden!) and prepared with care. With an entree, plat, fromage and delicious (self made) desert, it is (ful)filling and very reasonably priced. The breakfast is excellent. One of the daughter's is opening a spa soon next to the indoor swimming pool. The chateau has its own walled garden, which gives it quietness and feeling of being in a little oasis. The sound of the wind through the trees is utterly relaxing. The landscape around is not superb, but within 10-30 minutes by car, there are hills and forests to be enjoyed. The family is very warm and welcoming. The personal touch and feel of this Chambre d'Hôte is truly unique and I'm definitely...
Read moreWhat a wonderful, wonderful place. I have to force myself to write a review, because I’d wish to keep it for myself, like a second, enchanted home where to go as soon as possible to enjoy its special brand of bien-être and relax.|Le Chateu is an old, large, very French 18th century mansion that Fabrice and Agnes, with their five boys and girls, have smartly restaured and transformed in this delightful chambre (and table) d’hote. There is a large, beautiful indoor pool, a huge green walled garden behind the house, with lots of flowers, many places to sit and rest, and an amazing giant purple beech tree in the middle. The rooms are spacious and each one is different from the other, and perfect in its own way. The genius behind the decoration is Agnes, with her amazing artistic flair. Breakfast and dinner, served alfresco in the summer months, are a surprising gourmet experience, and Fabrice will guide you with wine pairing. The area, with its rolling green and golden hills, tiny beautiful villages and scattered old farmhouses, is a pleasure to discover, and you will be at short driving distance from the two unmissable historic towns of Laon and Reims (the champagne capital). Lots to explore and do around, but it will be hard to tear yourself away from the peace of...
Read moreWe had a wonderful time staying in this hotel. ||||I believe most of the hotel rooms are located in what used to be a stable, adjacent to the main house. It has now been fully converted and is beautifully decorated. We stayed in one of the family rooms. The layout was great, with a big King bed on the main floor of our room and a loft above with two single beds for the children. ||||Our kids loved hanging out in the large garden with the animals (there are horses, dogs, cats, chickens and - when we were there - a couple of rescued baby hedgehogs). The family hosting us were charming and extremely welcoming. We enjoyed our dinner with them immensely and the food was fantastic. ||||There is a nice sized indoor pool which we all really enjoyed. ||||All-in-all it was a great opportunity for us to relax and enjoy the French countryside and get to experience a taste of the French country life. ||||If you're looking for a clinical urban hotel feel then this is not the place for you. If you're looking for a really unique and authentic experience then definitely...
