All the cabanes are different - we stayed in a mini wooden chateau on a large, gorgeous lake. It's very romantic and dreamy, and pretty firmly in the glamping category. When you look at the web site it all looks a bit too good to be true and I was expecting some disappointment when we got there but it is a truly magical place - the only downside is a slightly odd feel to the place (more on that below). It had its own hot tub, and the whole experience was glorious and otherworldly. It has power (don't think all the cabanes do) and a dry sawdust toilet that we tried not to use too much! Very clean, lovely bed linen and great simple breakfast. My daughters aged 11 and 13 absolutely loved it, and they swam in the lake despite feeding hundreds of catfish in it. It's on a great swimming lake but you can't see the beach full of people as it's around the corner, and still feels completely private. Glorious misty mornings and delicious sunsets. You can walk 5-10mins over the river to a Eurocamp-style campsite that they seem to have a sharing deal with, and the kids can have their cacophonous swim-and-slide fun together with a mass of Dutch/German campers, and then you can retreat to your romantic solitude again! The restaurant just outside the place isn't great and its very expensive, but if you've driven for 10hrs and need to feed, it's fine.||So what are the downsides? Well, the place has an ever-so-slightly strange feel to it - like it's slightly unfinished or a project that hasn't quite filled it's boots yet. Hard to describe why - perhaps it's the sheer scale of the place (it's huge, with lots of separate lakes and a few derelict buildings around) and there's a sense that they've tried lots of different businesses here that haven't quite worked. Possibly an angling site that closed down? None of that should be a problem really as the place is still beautiful, but to get to the central shower block we walked past a dumping ground for a demolished tree house and a semi-industrial half-derelict barn that seems to be used for site equipment. The staff were polite but not particulalry friendly (the UK had just voted to leave the EU when we arrived so I'm not that surprised), and didn't give me very much information. We were given a backpack that they kept mentioning contained presents whch made the kids very excited (it had two bottles of water in it), and when we asked if they could book us a table at the restaurant they repeatedly told me to go in there and book (not a problem, but I had just been driving for 10hrs, so a little help would...
