We booked two rooms for three nights at this charming, very clean and comfortable chateau. We arrived a couple of hours before check-in but explained to the hostess that we had not had lunch but had a picnic we had bought at the local supermarket and asked if she minded us sitting in the garden. Immediately a table cloth, cutlery, plates, glasses and water appeared, so we had a rather posh picnic. Lovely French coffee followed. Restaurants close at 2:30pm almost everywhere in Lyon or the surrounding areas.||The rooms were huge and very comfortable with beautiful large windows that looked out on to fields with horses, geese and cows...very relaxing.||After a wake up call from the geese a delicious breakfast was served every morning and the hostess Veronique made the worlds best hot chocolate according to our teenage son!! ||Veronique also booked our taxis to the wedding and back and recommended and booked some amazing restaurants for us to try. ||All furnishings were clean, comfortable and well maintained.||If ever in the area again we will definitely return to Chateau de la Venerie!!!||Merci...
Read moreWhat a find. Rather than stay in a boring mainstream motel, we search our beautiful owner run small hotels or houses with room to stay in. On a trip from the UK to Italy we chose Chateau de La as its beautiful and quiet to stay, just minutes from the motorways and quite easy to find. The owner was there to greet us, and showed us to our enormous bedroom. Room 123 had a huge comfortable bed with and huge bathroom with two sinks, a bath and a shower for two. Brilliant after a 700km drive!. Veronique booked a local restaurant (Les Moblots in St Julien, 7 minutes by car. Food fabulous and made a tiring day great , see my other review in the area) and even though my French is poor we were able to talk together. After a quiet night, breakfast was fresh and ready, then a tidy up and we left without fuss, and making sure this was in the book for future stop overs when passing. Many thanks for a...
Read moreEn route to the Provence our family of 4 stayed overnight at Chateau de la Vénerie. A beautiful venue in the Lyon area. We were welcomed by the friendly host Veronique. Although we were a few hours early we could already access our rooms. The rooms are spacious with a nice view. Veronique made a reservation for us at a nice restaurant on the river bank of the Saône in a village nearby. |We planned to leave early the next morning and told Veronique we wouldn't use breakfast. Although breakfast usually is served as of 7.30am she was more than willing to serve us breakfast at 6am. We kindly thanked her for the service, but said it wasn't necessary. |We enjoyed our stay and the friendly...
