We wanted to take a side trip from Hamburg Germany to the Baltic Sea / Countryside and found the perfect place in Hebeukenberghof, just outside of Bosdorf.||||Traveling with our two little ones (3 and 1) as well my husband's sister, her husband and their four kids (3 weeks to 8 years old) sounded like quite a challenge, but this place and its staff accommodated us perfectly. The large home has been converted into apartment-like sections so each family had our own "suites" with two bedrooms, dining area, kitchen, living area each. The windows opened out to overlook a beautiful garden, green fields and stables for two horses and their babies (very clean) -- one housed a one-day old little foal when we arrived.||||The thatched roof was straight out of a storybook as were the flower gardens, but inside was extremely clean and modern (satellite TV, wireless internet, fully-stocked kitchen, etc). Outside was a nature-haven for the kids... there were horses in open fields, a large riding arena and ponies, kittens, the two property dogs and friendly locals who boarded their horses there.||||A small play area with swings was perfect for the boys -- parking was easy and safe, there was a BBQ area near the garden, plenty of room for everyone (we hardly ever saw the 10 or so other guests there). But then again, we were away at daily trips to the sea (approx 30 minutes drive through the most beautiful countryside and small towns). We visited the medieval city of Plon one night -- and since the sun did not go down until about 10:30 pm the kids were out late with us in the crowded plazas every night. ||||The owner, Angelika, spoke very good English and was so friendly and helpful for anything we needed. For Mother's Day, my husband arranged for me to take an amazing horseback ride through the woods and open fields to a lake with her and other regular riders (a seasoned equestrian would love jumping over obstacles which I did not attempt with them -- galloping and cantering at full speed was enough adventure for me!) The next morning she even gave the kids a private horse-riding lesson, which they just loved. ||||On the drive back to Hamburg we stopped in historic Lubeck for lunch, took photos in the flower fields along the way. All in all, it was exactly what we wanted: Family time spent in nature (but in comfort!) exploring a new place with memorable adventures our kids will remember. I would recommend this treasure to anyone whether they enjoy horses or not, and we absolutely...
Read moreI wanted to stay at a place with a thatched roof near the Baltic. I found the Hebeukenberghof in a small town nearby and we loved it. We had a 2 bedroom suite with a kitchenette. Big fluffy blankets, windows that opened out so we could really get a good look at the thatched roof, quiet, lovely location, horses out back in the cleanest stable I've ever seen. There is no food served but we picked up some strawberries and white asperagus at a roadside stand. Incredible flavor. We were a short drive to historic Lubeck, a must see and visited with friends in Neustadt on the Baltic sea. If you are looking to step back in time and stay in the land of Hansel and Gretal, this...
