I stayed at the Hotel Keßler-Meyer for two nights in September 2023 with a friend. We had a very good time overall. We had room 4 in the main building, close to the reception, which was clean, spacious, stylishly decorated, and well-equipped with A/C, TV, safe, fridge, coffee maker, free Wi-Fi, hair dryer, bath robes, slippers, a sauna bag containing towels and a blanket, and even a hiking backpack with a refillable water bottle. The bathroom was clean and spacious as well. A nice selection of brand toiletries were provided. We had booked a package which included half board, a massage, a bottle of wine and one of water, a cocktail, plus free use of the spa area until 6 p.m. on the day of departure.|The pool is quite small but was never very crowded. I often had it to myself. The spa area is nice, though rather small as well. It contains two saunas and a steam bath. Tea, water, and apples are provided free of charge. |Breakfast was buffet style and was very good. There was a vast selection of items and most of them were of good quality, though we didn’t care for the falafel and humus. Didn’t try the fried eggs as they looked quite dry. Dinner on both days consisted of soup (two kinds to choose from), salad from a salad bar, main course (meat, fish, or vegetarian), and dessert (two options to choose from). We enjoyed the food, overall. My only criticism is firstly the fact that the same kind of soup was offered on the two consecutive days, so although it was good it was probably not freshly prepared on the second day, and secondly the horrible dessert on the second day, which consisted mainly of a marinated pear that was terribly dry. My friend couldn’t eat it at all, in fact.|The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We did have our doubts about the massage as it was included in our package, but it turned out to be very good. When we checked out we were given a snack pack for the trip home consisting of two bottles of water, apples, and home-made cookies, which was a very nice touch.|It takes about twenty minutes to walk to Cochem old town from the hotel, but it is a pleasant walk along the river. The walk to the castle looks steep, but it turned out to be easier than I had expected and took me less than half an hour. So I would say the hotel’s location isn’t bad. We had a view of the castle from our room.|To sum it up, I warmly recommend this hotel and...
Read moreA great but rather pricey stay, especially if you want to enjoy all the facilities this wellness hotel offers. Almost everything comes with an additional charge, and unfortunately, guests don’t receive any reduced rates. Considering the quite high room prices, the total bill adds up quickly.
The hotel is located about a 20–25 minute walk from the town center. That’s quite a distance, though fine if the weather is good. Parking next to the hotel is rather small, with space for about 12 cars. If it’s full, you’ll need to park elsewhere. The hotel does assist with alternative parking spots further away, but they’re not ideal. Combined with the distance to the center, this can be inconvenient. Taking the car to town also means risking your parking space being gone when you return, leaving you searching again in the evening.
On the positive side, the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. If you book a Mosel-view room, the scenery is stunning. Breakfast is plentiful and of good quality, served in a cozy and nicely decorated area. However, the experience isn’t always ideal. Being in the beautiful, fresh, green surroundings of Cochem, you’d want to enjoy breakfast outside on the terrace. Unfortunately, some guests smoke multiple cigarettes during breakfast. There are no ashtrays on the tables (a good attempt to discourage smoking), but some still smoke, toss their cigarette butts into the plants (polluting), and flick ashes on the ground (unhygienic). This not only creates an unpleasant smell but also spoils the atmosphere. The staff noticed but did not intervene. It’s a shame that, in such a lovely natural setting, you sometimes feel forced to eat inside on a beautiful day just to avoid the smoke. Personally, I think a no-smoking policy during breakfast would be very appropriate.
The rooms are cozy and clean. The bathrooms are small, which is understandable given the building’s structure. However, the open shower design means that water splashes across the entire bathroom. The only way to avoid this is to keep the water pressure very low, which makes rinsing off, and especially washing your hair quite uncomfortable.
Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay. There are a few downsides, but it’s definitely a great option if you want to spoil yourself in Cochem, enjoy beautiful views, and don’t mind...
Read moreI booked this hotel for a weekend as our wedding anniversary celebration. We were welcomed very warmly and personally escorted to our room. We had a balcony with a view of the vineyards, castle and the town below. It was great. The room was nicely equipped and had a German queen bed (two twins pushed together) and was comfortable. There was even a bottle of local Reisling in our fridge as a welcome gift. We decided to have dinner in the restaurant that evening and were pleasantly surprised. The meal started with a cream of garlic soup (divine!), salad and entree of very tender beef slices over vegetables and au gratin potatoes. Dessert was home made apple strudel with vanilla ice cream. Absolutely delicious! ||||We also used the schwimbad and sauna during our stay and had massages at the Wellness Villa (which was a tad challenging to find). Everyone we came in contact with at the hotel was very personable and friendly with the exception of the person at the desk of the villa. When we arrived for our massages, we were greeted in German and as we gave the girl our paperwork we asked - in German - if she could speak English to us. She glared at us and stated very brusquely "please sit down". I totally did not expect such a sharp greeting and we just walked over to the seating area. This was the only part of this experience that I would say was negative. Would it be enough to not recommend this hotel? No. You can't blame everyone for one sharp, rude comment. The experience overall was great and the food was really good. I wouldn't normally have paid this much for a hotel room but it was a...
