Once in Jutland (dreadful), once in Rinteln (Germany - absolutely dreadful - cardboard partition around the loo) and now this week from the hotel Kollektur.||||I did my homework for a walking break around the Zellertal (valley) near Karlsruhe and Manhein in Germany. The hotel has good write-ups (though limited on Trip Advisor) and a really good web presence. We expected to be in for a treat - good walking - good food and a really nice room with a view. We had thought that we would extend our stay if we liked the hotel.||||We arrived Sunday evening - and things looked good - parking was a little tricky - and perhaps unconventional amongst the rubble - but they are obvioulsy renovating - and are really in the middle of the vinyards in a seriously picturesque village.||||We walked up and over the terrace - some metres above the parking and into reception - and the feelgood factor was enhanced. We were greated by what I take to be the owner in a really effusive way and were offered help with our bags.||||We went back down to the car - to discover that a group of "yobs" no other word for them were busy throwing handfulls of stones at the cars in the car-park from the terrace above. The member of staff who had come to help with the bags tried less than half-heartedly to stop them - they continued to throw the stones even though we were standing below them - and at that stage we decided that this was definitely not for us.||||Back to reception to return the key - and the manager / owner - in short - declined to do anything about the situation - expressing the view that they were - probably customers perhaps relatives (not sure of this) and that it was the parents' responsibility.||||Now - this is probably a really nice place to stay - but would you stay and risk your car in such a situation? And ours is almost new ... and remember they continued to throw the stones with us beneath them.||||It thoroughly ruined our weekend - we were very angry and embarrased, and we had to hot-foot it to the nearest towns to find a hotel - 6pm on a Sunday. We did eventually after four attempts find a wonderfully clean - but basic hotel overlooking a contractors yard.||||We are so angry about this behaviour that we will now write to the German Tourist Board in the UK - they are always telling us how good a holiday destinatioin Germany is and will probably write to the mayor of this little town to tell him how visitors are treated and why we will not return.||||A quick chat with some colleagues found that they did not believe this sort of behaviour went on in Germany - all round a very sad occasion and a ruined few days leave.||||Our advice -...
Read moreI have been there two nights while on a business trip with one guy of my staff and we are both very satisfied. The hotel rooms have been renewed lately while it keeps its aspect of an hystorical building outside. Rooms are clean, bathrooms spacious and the bed very comfortable. Flat-screen TV and also a magazine with TV programs, the only pity was that there were only german channels. The view from the terrace, where it's also possible to have a beer or lunch, is something that remembers Tuscany, pleasant hills with vineyards: dining on the terrace is wonderful! There is also a garden with sand and sunbeds downstairs. The area is very quiet. Breakfast was very good and also dinner, food is tasty and well cooked, wine is fabolous, I had one of the best rose wine ever had. Prices are good considering the high quality of the structure. The owner is very kind and does his best to make you feel comfortable, he also speaks a good English. Parking available along the street. A tennis court and a swimming pool in the neighborhood would make this the perfect place for a relaxing escape: it's only one hour drive...
