Landhaus Engel — Hotel in Gemeindeverwaltungsverband Balingen

A business acquaintance recommended Landhaus Engel as a good, local hotel for a visit to a customer in nearby Balingen (about 6km away). I arrived at about 4pm in my hire car and the welcome was as warm and genuine as the room (Franz Snr.) itself.||Having spent the previous night in a renovated 80s, chain hotel, the homely atmosphere, proper bed, lovingly and authentically decorated room was a real treat, for a great price too. The hotel is situated on the approach to a village and the fresh air, agricultural sounds and friendly staff were my first impressions. ||The room is big, clean, bright, airy, warm, welcoming and has the requisite large TV, plugs and wifi. The temptation not to work, but to crash out on the bed and read was hard to resist (I failed miserably).||Dinner in the restaurant was excellent and anything but expensive. A fantastically friendly and supremely efficient waiter made feel very welcome. The food was certainly not the meat, meat and more meat typical for many such hotel/restaurants. The Rinderbrühe soup tasted very fresh, not just of stock cube, and the Herbstsalat was so fresh the vegetables must have come out of the garden behind the hotel. The beer was crisp and poured properly. ||If this hotel is within driving / travelling distance of wherever your meeting might be, then book a room here! You will not be disappointed. It's an absolute gem of a place. Perfect hosts and incredible staff. The hosts are young and modern, which means you have a hotel that is modern, without loosing its character and charm. Cosy and warm and isn't the usual stuffy and old-fashioned as is found in most small hotels. We stayed in the main part of the hotel and the bedrooms were lovely! Huge bed and loads of space. It's more like a suite than a bedroom. And even has tea and coffee facilities in the room! Extremely unusual for Germany! The breakfast included can not be faulted. Continental, warm food on offer as well as fresh fruit and yoghurt, not to mention the Muesli on offer. The restaurant also offers lunch, cakes and dinner. All cooked to perfection. The hosts and staff will do everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible, and any special requests you have, they will do their best to accommodate you and make it happen. Ernüchternder Aufenthalt im Landhaus Engel

Meine Erwartungen an das Landhaus Engel in Erlaheim waren hoch, nachdem ich die Bilder und Beschreibungen auf der Website gesehen hatte. Leider konnte der Aufenthalt diese Erwartungen nicht erfüllen. Mein Freund und ich verbrachten hier ein Wochenende, um dem Alltag zu entfliehen – doch die Erfahrung war eher enttäuschend als entspannend.

Positives: Das Gebäude hat zweifellos Charme, und die ruhige Lage in Erlaheim ist ideal für Menschen, die dem Stadttrubel entkommen möchten. Die Umgebung lädt zu Spaziergängen ein, und das Fachwerkhaus versprüht von außen einen urigen, gemütlichen Flair. Auch das Frühstück war in Ordnung – eine solide Auswahl an Brot, Aufschnitt und Marmeladen, wenn auch nichts Außergewöhnliches.

Negatives: Leider wurde unser Eindruck durch einige Mängel getrübt:

Zimmer & Sauberkeit: Unser Zimmer war zwar groß, wirkte aber veraltet und etwas lieblos eingerichtet. Die Möbel hatten schon bessere Tage gesehen, und die Matratze war so durchgelegen, dass wir beide am nächsten Morgen Rückenschmerzen hatten. Zudem fanden wir Staub auf den Nachttischen und Haare im Badezimmer – ein absolutes No-Go.

Service: Die Gastgeberin war zwar freundlich, aber wenig präsent. Wir hatten Fragen zu möglichen Unternehmungen in der Umgebung, bekamen aber nur eine kurze, wenig begeisterte Antwort. Auch der Check-in verlief eher unpersönlich, und wir fühlten uns nicht wirklich willkommen.

Essen: Das Abendessen, das wir einmal im hauseigenen Restaurant probierten, war leider nicht überzeugend. Mein Freund bestellte ein Steak, das viel zu durchgebraten war, und mein vegetarisches Gericht war geschmacklich eher fad. Angesichts der Preise hatten wir mehr erwartet.

Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis: Für den Preis, den wir bezahlt haben, hätten wir definitiv mehr erwartet – vor allem in Bezug auf Sauberkeit und Service. Das Landhaus Engel hat Potenzial, aber momentan stimmt das Verhältnis zwischen Preis und Leistung nicht.

Fazit: Wir hatten uns auf einen gemütlichen, romantischen Aufenthalt gefreut, doch insgesamt fühlte es sich eher wie ein durchschnittlicher Gasthof an, der dringend eine Modernisierung und besseren Service benötigt. Wer keine hohen Ansprüche hat und nur eine einfache Unterkunft in schöner Umgebung sucht, könnte sich hier vielleicht wohlfühlen. Für uns war es leider keine Erfahrung, die wir wiederholen würden.
