Driving back from Italy (via Luxembourg, of course, for the cheap fuel) we came across this hotel not far from the autobahn between Ulm and Stuttgart. The friendly guy on reception directed us to the car park around the back, gave us their only room with a water bed - a novelty we couldn't resist - and fetched us menus so we could order dinner before the kitchen shut. We ordered, went to the room to dump our bags and returned to the modern, glass-topped courtyard for our meal. I'd ordered salad and I reckon it was the best one I've ever had! It was a colourful and tasty dish, arranged almost like an artist's palate. A pile of lettuce topped with cress and drizzled with balsamic dressing was surround by mounds of grated carrot dressed with orange; proper German potato salad (cooked in stock and a steeped in a vinaigrette while still warm); pickled beetroot; cucumber salad and chicken strips, with pickled radish to garnish. My other half had schnitzel and chips - the chips were excellent. We were both pretty full and reluctantly had to decline a pudding. Our room was large, with a generous bathroom including a big bath, and the water bed was very comfortable - contrasting particularly with the previous night, when we'd camped. Soft yet supportive, it allowed us a great night's sleep, and a fair bit of amusement at the unusual movement! Breakfast was the usual bread, ham, cheese, jams yoghurt and fruit selection, along with eggs and coffee - perfectly adequate for 5 euros each. The room was 83 euros and dinner was about 30 euros. The hotel runs its own distillery and produces whisky and gin. We didn't try them, but maybe next time! We had planned to leave early and staff pointed us to the village bakery which opens at 6.30am. In the end we slept so well and were so relaxed we stayed for breakfast instead of dashing off. I can reveal that this hotel is about 11 hours from Dover (via Luxembourg) at a good pace, with a fuel and shopping stop (about half an hour) plus a lunch stop (about half an hour) and a couple of hold-ups on the road (about...
Read moreWe booked via booking.com after checking out the hotel on Trip. The Hotel is about 5 K off the motorway in a quiet village. The Hotel is two buildings joined together by a rather strange conservatory, nice but different. We stayed in the annex 30 meters from the main hotel. The rooms are very clean, big, simple but comfortable. We parked outside the annex and were assured that it was safe to leave the car fully loaded, we did and it was. The Hotel has the normal stuff you'd expect from a village hotel plus a farm and a whisky distillery!||||I had a couple of beers to go with my home grown Pork Fillet, Mushroom Sauce and Butterspätzle. The boss had a Gluten Free mixed Salad with Mushrooms, Bacon and Frites. Both were tasty and good.||||Breakfast was something else, a couple of superb homemade raspberry yoghurts served in small glasses set the tone. Freshly prepared fruit salads were great. The bread was fresh and tasty. Someone even went to the trouble of pressing out butter stars, a nice touch. One of the waitresses got the toaster so that we could toast the boss' Gluten Free Bread. The cheeses were wonderful, the coffee is fresh, strong and very drinkable. After we'd eaten a decent amount of breakfast we were served german style bacon and scrabbled eggs, again really tasty!||||If you want to eat McDonalds this probably isn't the hotel for you.||||However the hotel was full with German travellers and next time we're heading towards Munich we'll be...
Read moreI visited this hotel because of business trip in Nellingen. I didn't know that this hotel in small village Nellingen is so popular. Not only because of whisky distillery there, but also because of restaurant.||The family hotel consists from 3 building. I was accommodated in the house directly next to main building and distillery where their own whisky is producing.||The room was clean, cosy old furnished. The heater was switched off and it took some time to heat the room up.||In the room, because of some reason, the minibar was missing and the content was placed on the table.||Flat TV and free wifi available.||I like the hand-painted elevator with motif of four seasons.||The breakfast was good, especially fresh fruit salat. On request you can get scramble or fried eggs.||The staff was very friendly and helpful.||Enough free parking places - if not in front of hotel, then many places behind, next to annexe house.||||I visited the hotel's restaurant for the lunch, which tasted really good. In the evening the restaurant was full of people, probably it's very famous in the...
