I was catching an early flight from the Leipzig airport in the morning so just needed somewhere to drink a beer, eat a meal and rest my head after a very long train journey. Some other reviews led me to believe this was just the place. I feel I was misled. The hotel certainly is close to the airport, as the crow flies, but it is on the opposite side from the usual public entrance. Being a very big airport (at least in geographical area), this means a surprisingly long journey by taxi. It cost me a whopping 33 Euros to get to the hotel. The return journey in the morning cost me 22 Euros. Maybe the first taxi driver ripped me off, or maybe that was the evening rate, but the two journeys doubled the cost of the stay. The hotel does NOT run an airport shuttle, free or otherwise. I checked with the airport and two hotel staff. There were also very few taxis outside the airport and I had a 15 minute wait plus a 15 minute journey. That is just about how long it takes by train from Halle or Leipzig for a few Euros â and the taxi fare would have paid for the higher hotel cost.|When I arrived, there appeared to be a private party on.|It was an age before anyone turned up to check me in, despite me ringing the bell. I got the impression the staff were fully occupied with the private party. The room was ok, clean enough, but a bit sparse. No tea or coffee (common for German hotels, I know) but no bottled water or any other comforts. |I went downstairs hoping to eat â and found the âlive entertainmentâ in full swing, with what I presume may have been wedding guests everywhere. I took a peak in the bar and decided entering would have been essentially crashing a private event. I walked to the other end of the reception area and entered the door labelled ârestaurantâ â and realised to my horror it was the same room, quite full of people laughing , joking and singing along to a karaoke singer. It appeared there was only this one combined room â and it was very much occupied. There was absolutely no way I, especially being a none German speaker, was going to walk in there and try and order a meal and sit by myself. Plus I hate karaoke with a passion!|I decided to go for a walk and explore what the local area had the offer. The quick answer is⊠absolutely nothing at all. If Glesien has any sort of village centre or heart, then I never found it. You basically have a huge industrial estate in front of the Hotel which backs onto the airfield perimeter. Behind the hotel are a few suburban streets with private houses, comprising the tiny village of Glesien. It was completely deserted, pitch black with hardly any street lights and deathly quiet â actually a bit creepy. No disrespect to the inhabitants, it might be a great place to live and probably looks a lot nicer in the daylight, but if you are looking for a bar, restaurant, take away, filling station, corner shop â or anything at all⊠you would have to walk for many more miles than I did to find it. |When I returned to the hotel the karaoke had been replaced by a guy singing and playing his guitar to a drum machine and everyone seemed a little more intoxicated and quite a bit louder than before. I went to bed without eating or drinking, feeling really uncomfortable and that I shouldnât have been there. |I was worried the noise might go on until the early hours, but mercifully the live music did stop at about 10 pm. If you are with a group or party, if you want to indulge in some lively German atmosphere, if you like karaoke or live entertainment whilst you eat, this could be the hotel for you.|I don't want to run the hotel down, maybe they do great wedding receptions and birthday parties and the people there seemed to be having a good time. I have read the food is good, but I canât comment as I didnât have any. I left early and ate at the airport. The situation would also be different if you had a hire car or your own transport. Maybe on a different day the Hotel would have seemed a bit more welcoming?|However for me, a lone business traveller using public transport, looking for a meal and a good nightâs sleep within easy reach of the airport, this was definitely the...
Read moreMy son and I stayed here after we landed at Leipzig airport before a car journey the following day. This Hotel is very close to the airport, but as flights stop at 9pm, we were not disturbed by the aircraft noise. The room was clean and comfortable. We arrived after 10.30pm and wanted to eat. We sat in the bar and chose a meal from the menu there. The bar has a very relaxed and comfortable feel. In fact we liked it enough to return before our return flight some days later, even though we didnt stay another night. I would prefer to drink/eat at this bar than any at...
Read moreI booked 2 rooms here for colleagues who were travelling to Berlin and this was the half way point. This is something we do often and this is exactly the sort of hotel we hope to find. Both colleagues have independently said it was a pleasure to stay in and that it should form part of our database of places we use when working in certain parts of Europe. The dinner available in the hotel that evening was fantastic and great value and the staff extremely kind and helpful. This is everything you want from a hotel - but often dont...
