Motel Hormersdorf — Hotel in Schnaittach

Excellent location - we booked this motel for overnight and came very early. Asked where we could spend couple of hours for walking around/sightseeing. They recommended us the nearby forest of Franconian Switzerland (Fränkische Schweiz) where we had an excellent walk along the Pegnitz River (with parking spots alongside) and in the forest, having visited Maximiliansgrotte (biggest of the caves' chain in that region). We just discovered all that beauty practically driving by! We'll get back there for hiking in the woods and riverside walks once again, and stay again @ Motel Hormersdorf, because: 1) It is conveniently located, next to motorway yet very quiet, 2) It has a cosy layout and ambiance with spacey and spotless room(s) and shower facilities and nice beds, 3) It has a very nice breakfast, 4) It has a welcoming and helpful staff who speak English and do everything possible to accommodate your needs, 6) Has a evening meal facility where you can have a nice dinner with a tasty (though priced) local beer, 5) Is quite a value-for-money overall choice. The rooms were nice and clean. I reacted positively when first entering.

However, we spent 2 hours killing hundreds of insects, gnats, small flies, and mosquitoes. Which made for a sleepless night. In a warm room without ventilation.

Update: I appreciate the feedback from management immediately the next morning. They offered a good breakfast with lots of options even gluten free bread. Appreciate the complimentary espresso and cappuccino as an apology for the rough night.

Facts are during the summer time, when it’s hot and there’s no AC or fans in the room and opening the windows is not an option because of bugs. It’s not a comfortable stay. Understood that air was not advertised.

To management: these are simple problems with low cost solutions. No air, add screens to the windows. No AC and can’t open windows, that’s fine, offer portable fans.

Rated in context and in totality - an easy 5-star stay. The rooms, while cozy (for our 3-person party), are clean and comfortable. My only small complaint with the room itself was a very tight shower. The facility itself is clean and well kept and easily accessible with ample parking. The breakfast was pretty standard for a German bed-and-breakfast - but was plentiful with lots of options. The service was super friendly and prompt. Add it all up - and keeping in mind the better-than-average price - you really cannot go wrong here. Again - rate the facility in context. Would this hotel rank 5 stars in one of the larger worldwide cities? No. But then a hotel there would be far more expensive ;-) Well done,...
