I chose this hotel for an overnight stop between two days of considerable autobahn driving. I was looking for somewhere quiet and peaceful and I was not disappointed. Detzem is a small village beside the Mosel river, set amidst vineyards and there are several wine producers in the village. The Zum Anker is right on the bank of the Mosel at a point where river traffic can moor up as evidenced by the substantial mooring posts in the ground, but the burgeoning undergrowth suggests that facility is not much used these days. Just a few hundred metres away is one of the locks on this part of the river where you can watch all the activity as barges pass through on this busy stretch of the river. The hotel is a lovely old building that has been carefully brought up to modern standards. It is quite small with only 15 rooms and three apartments. The rooms all have private facilities and have a well stocked mini-bar. Many of the rooms have balconies overlooking the river. There is a breakfast room on the ground floor with a breakfast buffet offering a pretty typical selection for a good German breakfast. There is good free wifi in the hotel for which you need to obtain a password. Next door, actually part of the same building though there is a road archway in between, is the bar and restaurant, run by the same family, but as a separate entity. There is a lovely outdoor terrace overlooking the river but if the weather was not so good, the inside part of the restaurant also looks directly on to the river. The food was good standard fare, well cooked and presented but not a 'fine dining' experience. It would be nice to see a slightly wider choice on the menu, but for a few nights it would be more than sufficient. (There are other restaurants in the village but I didn't have time to see what they were like.). Some of the family speak English. The same family also owns a vineyard so you can purchase wine from them. If you order it the previous evening then it will be waiting for you when you check out the following morning.||||The hotel lived up to all my expectations of a peaceful riverside retreat - my only regret was that heavy traffic had delayed my arrival so I wasn't able to spend as much time walking beside the river as I had hoped. Detzem is probably best reached by car, but there is a, somewhat irregular, bus service from nearby Schwiech which has a train station. I would happily stop here again in the future, perhaps staying for a few days to explore the area a bit more.||||(Note for CPAP users. There was a power point beside the bed but because this is an older building where not every room is the same it may not be like that in...
Read moreMy stay at Hotel zum Anker in Detzem was truly delightful, thanks to its prime location right by the Mosel River, offering stunning views from a spacious balcony. The room itself was generously sized, adding to the overall comfort of our stay. The breakfast selection was sufficient, and the owner went above and beyond to accommodate our vegan requests, which was greatly appreciated. The staff were exceptionally friendly, and the pet-friendly policy made it a welcoming spot for all guests. The nearby lock was a fascinating attraction, especially watching the ships pass through, and the location is perfect for exploring the charming village and surrounding areas. While the bed mattresses were not the most comfortable, this minor drawback did little to detract from an otherwise perfect stay. I would highly recommend Hotel zum Anker for a relaxing...
