Kniebis Stuben - Hotel Restaurant — Hotel in Vereinbarte Verwaltungsgemeinschaft Freudenstadt

This hotel is a bit of a time travel experience. As soon as I entered I felt like I was back in the learly 80s. Classic family-run hotel with friendly hospitality. I stayed here while doing the Westweg long distance trail. There are not too many options for accommodations between Unterstmatt and Alexanderstanze, so Kniebis is your next best bet. ||||Kniebis (and the hotel) are right on a busy country road that is popular with bikers and motorists, especially on weekends. Thus it can be very noisy there, but mostly during the day. At night it is peaceful and quiet.||||Although the signpost at Alexanderschanze says Kniebis is only 2km out of your way - don't believe it! It is more like 5km. However, the hotel offers a transfer service - if you call them from Alexanderschanze they will come and pick you up, which is very welcome after having walked 28km on that section of the trail, - and they will return you to Alexanderschanze the next morning.||||I believed the signpost and ended up walking the extra miles. I had called them up earlier to let them know that I would get there a little late (after 6pm). I reached the hotel shortly before 8pm. The kitchen closes at 8pm and other restaurants in the village do the same. However, they still served me, which was very kind. The menu is heavily meat orientated, so for vegetarians it is a bit challenging, but I doubt the choice would be any better anywhere else in Kniebis. Breakfast was adequate, though could have been a bit more varied.||||My room was on the 2nd floor. There is a lift, and while it is slow, at least it gets the luggage upstairs. The room was comfortable, tidy, clean and old fashioned. The furniture did not seem 'worn out', just a retro kind of style. There was no light switch near the bed, which was a little inconvenient, but not really a bother. After the long walk I loved the fact that the bathroom had a tub in it - bliss! ||||Also very convenient is the fact that they offer luggage transfers (at an extra charge) for people doing the Westweg. The hotel has internet access. ||||For what I needed that night the hotel was more than adequate and the family was very kind...

We reserved a double room at Cafe Guenter based on price and location, but we would come back for the wonderful food, service and authentic Altes Schwarzwald experience. We arrived at dusk after a LONG couple of days flying into Frankfurt from the US, then traveling South through the Odenwald and to Burg Hohen Neuffen (with a temporary detour into Stuttgart at rush hour), and then headed west over land until we arrived. Herr Guenter (?) was very friendly and patient with my very rusty German. The room was average size for a European hotel, but clean and comfortable, and the cool Black Forest air, as Herr Guenter promised, was very restful. We enjoyed a wonderful (homemade!) dessert that night and a wonderful German Fruhstuck the next morning before heading off to Alsace. These weren't negatives for us but the lift is small and slow and the stairways steep and narrow. it is NOT a modern hotel. Wer im Schwarzwald Urlaub macht sollte auch mal eine richtige schwarzwälder Kirschtorte essen. Empfohlen wurde uns von unseren Gastgebern das Café Günter in Kniebis. Heute sind wir dort mal mit Hund und Kind eingekehrt. Für meinen Partner und mich gab's schon besagte Kirschtorte und Kind suchte sich eine Apfeltorte aus. Dazu gab's lecker Kakao. Die Schwarzwälder war lecker, hingegen unser Kind nach einmal probieren das Essen verweigerte. Es würde nicht nach Apfel schmecken. Nachdem ich und auch mein Mann einen kleinen Löffel probiert hatten war klar dass der Kuchen zwar nach Apfelkuchen aussah aber nicht annähernd danach schmeckte. Es war eher der Geschmack nach Orangenaroma. Die herangerufene Kellnerin zuckte nach unserer Reklamation auch nur mit den Schultern und meinte sie hat heute auch schon davon gegessen und er schmeckte ihr und da wäre Zitrone dran damit die Äpfel nicht braun werden. Aber es schmeckte nicht nach Zitrone. Wir ließen den Kuchen zurück gehen und Kind suchte sich was Neues raus. Himbeersahnetorte. Diese war auch lecker. Zur Bezahlung legte mir später die Kellnerin den Beleg hin inklusive der Apfeltorte. Als ich ihr mitteilte das ich mich weigere diese Apfeltorte, welche wir aufgrund unserer Reklamation nahezu unangerührt zurück gehen ließen, nicht zahlen werde, war diese ratlos und verwies mich an ihren Chef. Herrn Günter, dem Chef des Hauses, erklärte ich den Sachverhalt. Er argumentierte darauf hin dass er diesen Kuchen schon seit Jahren anbietet und sich bisher noch niemand beschwert hat. Ich meinte darauf das ich nichts dafür kann wenn sich andere das gefallen lassen und ich aus der Branche komme und weiß was für Rechte der Gast hat. Dann wurde Herr Günter unsachlich und meinte wenn ich wirklich aus der Branche käme hätte ich fragen sollen ob ich mit Hund in sein Haus kommen dürfte. Ich als Hundebesitzer schaue vorher ob ein Schild am Haus bzw. Grundstück angebracht ist und akzeptiere wenn Hunde nicht erwünscht sind. Es gab keinerlei Hinweise und beim Betreten des Hauses sah uns die Kellnerin und reagierte sogar mit einem Lächeln als unser Hund (könnte auch eine Schlummerolle sein) kurz wuff machte. Auf meine Frage an Herrn Günter warum denn nicht gleich was gesagt wird wenn ihm der Hund gegen den Strich geht kam keine Antwort. Er gab seiner Mitarbeiterin Zeichen den Kuchen von der Rechnung zu nehmen und erteilte mir und meiner Familie im selben Atemzug Hausverbot. Beim Bezahlen unterstellte er mir noch dass meine Unternehmung zu Reklamieren Masche wäre. Sehr unprofessionell, Herr Günter. Auch wenn Sie merken Sie haben einen Touristen vor sich können Sie gerne eine Reklamation ignorieren. Aber nicht jeder muss sich das...
