Bedroom was small but clean, had 3 windows as it was on the corner of the 1st floor so plenty of light. |Easy to park and wi-fi mostly worked well.|Great place if all you want is the great outdoors.|We ate dinner in the hotel on 2 nights and found the food to be good, although a limited menu - great if you like pork.|Staff spoke almost no English. All information about the hotel was in German only. At check-in we were given room keys and a form to fill in - told to bring it back later. That was it, no other information about the hotel, breakfast or anything else.|The 'manager' in particular was very rude. The younger staff at least made an effort to be pleasant, but only when the 'manager' wasn't watching.|The hotel is miles from the nearest town, no vending machines or tea/coffee making facilities in the hotel - bring supplies with you! No other facilities in the hotel or close by. An 82 year old lady from a coach party of tourists asked for a cup of tea at 9.10pm and was told 'no, it was all cleared away'!|A gentleman asked the staff if they could put the large TV on in the public area as his room TV was not working and was told 'no'.|We were told to go to our rooms at 10.20pm as the staff wanted to put the lights out and lock up!!!|Staff were told by the 'manager' to make sure we paid for our meals as soon as we had finished eating so that we didn't go to our room without paying!|Card machine not working, tried both of our credit cards and told they weren't accepted – led to believe our cards were refused when in fact the machine was broken. Made to feel very embarrassed in front of other guests.|Doors to the main area from the upper floors were locked until 8am, not a minute earlier, as breakfast is strictly 8am - 10am. Not helpful if you wanted to go for an early morning walk, or if there...
Read moreWe went with Shearings at the end of July 2017 who changed to this Hotel from what we had picked.Bad move, the manager was most unfriendly, couldnt understand English.couldnt see any fire health & safety posters anywhere.we are vegetarians & usually are well catered for with salads ,cauliflower cheese mac cheese etc,but not here ! only pasta & mushrooms 3 nights running hardly any fresh veg.starter was a bowl of lettuce leaves only ! dessert was a square dried out brownie 1 night,a dry muffin another night,a small ice cream another night,.there were many other people on our coach who were also unhappy with our meals,.the last night we had 2 suet like balls which was inedible on a mushroom sauce, tasted raw. Where was the black forrest gateaux which is supposed to be their special dessert of the Black Forrest ?or any other juicy morsel of cakes etc.We had to go to bed 10-15 as they wanted to lock the inner doors, what if there had been an emergency ,there seemed to be no contact numbers available anywhere on display,no info in bedrooms,oh by the way took 2 days to get fresh towels & room wasnt cleaned either, the towels still on bathroom floor, soap dispensers empty, loo roll holder fell off wall only hanging on a nail ! a waitress was found & she very kindly brought us fresh towels & said sorry. We were miles from anywhere,so couldnt get a decent meal anywhere nearby. There were a lot of elderly on our coach some in wheelchairs,so am sure quite a few of us went to bed still hungry.I have 1 holiday a year & look forward to being looked after properly & have lovely food to eat & a restful time, however this did not happen & feel bitterly upset at being put in this unfriendly...
Read moreThis may be down to post covid staffing problems for this review read it with the covid filter. Received key of room that was not clean. Second key was a room with a hole in the wall from the door handle due to no door stop being fitted. The room had a tired carpet which needed a good clean. The bathroom has a wet floor and nicely fitted. But with a close fitting carpet in such a small area is difficult to see why you would do this? There seemed to be a shortage off staff. Directions in corridors had had written pieces of paper. The gym was not fitted out. The pool is very small, so pictures are very misleading. There is a second pool partially built which is filled with stale green water and does not look nice. The outside patio area which is beautiful and has mono block paving has weeds in between the blocks everywhere. The toilet by the eating area (male) had a broken mirror light, missing light and no toilet paper, but was very clean and well fitted. There is a friendly dog which goes from breakfast table to breakfast table looking for petting and food. I like dogs, but some people don't like this. The saunas are very good, clean modern and top quality. Both Jacuzzis were empty and not working. Staff are friendly and helpful. Getting staff to serve during the evening was hard. They must be loosing so much money over this!!!! It's a nice place to sit out and watch the stars, but maybe they need dedicated staff for that section? There are other parts of the hotel which need attention and unfinished e.g. the...
