It is next to a gas station and at one point, late one afternoon there was electronic beat music that reverberated throughout the entire building, especially the bass. I just considered it part of the adventure.||Please consider the fact that my rating is based on expectations for the area, where there would not appear to be another option. Based on the rural surroundings this was a walled oasis where you could rely on electricity most of the time (except in a fierce thunder storm), a working toilet, running water in the sink, a clean bed in which to sleep. It is difficult to apply a standard rating system across the entire world to the broad spectrum of basic to luxury hotels, and depends on your experiences and expectations. If you are in Asamankese, you are in rural, under resourced West Africa in the Eastern Region of Ghana, keep that in mind. The people are friendly and happy but living in a different world than the one to which you may be accustomed.||My room was clean, spacious and had AC and a ceiling fan. The closet doors did not really slide open, probably stuck from swelling wood in the climate. Dim overhead light and no bedside light. No towels, I think you can ask for one, or bring your own. Screens on the window. Uneven stairs. Food on the patio was good, limited menu. Talapia very well flavored with plain white jasmine rice or fried, seasoned rice. The breakfast sandwich of homemade bread, and egg and green onion omelet tasted good. ||I did not try the TV, there was a small refrigerator in the room. No WIFI. Bathroom had running water and a toilet. The shower was a slow stream of cool water and came out of a faucet halfway up the wall in the room I was in. I just appreciated that I could get clean; I know others in my group filled the bucket provided and used that to douse themselves.||The swimming pool has never been filled other than by Mother Nature in very small amounts. The walled grounds are verdant with the rich, bright green of the jungle and farmland.||It is better than I expected for a rural, impoverished, remote area that has no sanitation and inconsistent electricity.||A short walk on the same side of the street, is a bamboo hut with a small enclosed patio and grassy area. Nigel, the proprietor serves palm wine in a calabash shell that he taps from local downed trees. The palm wine he produces is very low alcohol, partially fermented naturally, fresh and very refreshing.||If you are interested in following Nigel back through fields and a bit of jungle, he will show you the simple process. Be prepared to be confronted with rural, under-resourced families living in lean-to’s with a menagerie of goats, ducklings and puppies. Its as if you are stepping back in time to a rural, impoverished, untouched scene. They are cooking on outdoor fires and have seen foreigners very occasionally; it is a novelty for them.||If the calabash bowls are on a shelf leaning against the bamboo of the counter, but he is not there, check for him in his house up the hill. It seems reasonable to offer him 10 CD a person if he takes you back to the palm tree(s) that are the source of his palm wine - 15 minute walk only for the hardy and especially curious as it is very rustic, and...
Read moreIt is an okay place. But, being just an okay place is not enough in this competitive world, although there's hardly any competition close by. It is a beautiful place that I believe is being run down. There is no wifi available. Staff are unprofessional and are often not found at the reception; clients have to go around looking for someone to attend to them. Breakfast is a pittance. Rooms are okay. Shower works. There are buckets provided just in case the shower doesn't work. Mine never worked, no hot shower either, so I did cold bucket shower throughout my stay there. There are hardly any mosquitoes around so the balcony upstairs overlooking the main road is a great place to spend...
Read moreThe environment is very serene and I had a sound sleep while lodging there earlier this year. My husband was also happy he could watch all the live EPL and La Liga matches on dstv. We enjoyed the pool at night and were served with fresh meals from the kitchen.
The kitchen was willing to prepare any dish upon request, regardless of it not being on their menu. The staff were generally friendly too and we had a free car wash every morning till we left. I highly...
